Love is complicated. The English language makes it more complicated.

We have only one word to describe many different feelings and experiences. I love chocolate does not mean the same thing as telling my husband that I love him. I love my brother does not carry the same meaning as saying that I love to paddle a canoe. The love I have for my daughter is not the same as the love I have for my best childhood friend. In other languages, we can find all different words for love. English has just the one: Love.

So, love is complicated. Or is it? TLC at our agency stands for Teach Loving Connections. So what do we mean by "loving?" Loving means that our staff will be there, be present, for our families...in the midst of challenges, celebrations, heartaches, and loss. Loving means that we will help our parents and our youth find the information they need to succeed in their goals. Loving means helping our families find supports and services for any special needs they may have. Loving means giving affirmation for the smallest or greatest accomplishments that a mom may experience against many odds.

When we stand with families in these ways, we are helping pass this kind of loving down through the generations...and that is when we start seeing sustainable change in a community. On Monday, we launched a brand new look for our website. The new design features easy access to the information you want, lots of pictures, and is mobile-device friendly. We're excited about this change and look forward to hearing input from you.

Join us for parent-to-parent peer support, resource sharing, and enhancing parenting skills on Wednesdays, from 8:15 to 9:30 a.m., at Bluff Elementary School, located at 10 Summit Rd. in Claremont. Free breakfast snacks will be provided for parents and kids. No RSVPs are required.

Learn how to make healthy and safe food choices during pregnancy, understand the relationship between healthy weight gain during pregnancy and the health of a newborn baby, reasons physical activity during pregnancy is important to the health of both mother and baby, and what resources TLC Family Resource Center and WIC offer. Appointments and sign up WIC will be available.
