 CVSA Roadcheck 2017

CVSA 2017 will mark the 30th annual International Road Check.  This year's event will take place June 6th through the 8th focusing on Cargo Securement Safety.  Approximately 17 Level 1 Inspections will be completed every minute during this 72 hour period. Flatbed carriers be ready!  All other drivers need to be prepared as well.  Any commercial vehicle is subject to inspection; that means tractor trailers and even buses will be stopped.  And while the focus is on cargo securement, a level 1 inspection covers everything from lights to trailer doors, as well as log books, seat belts and alcohol/drugs.  During Road Check 2016 21% of trucks and 3.4% of drivers inspected were placed out of service.

What does all this mean to shippers and carriers? Many carriers simply stay off the road during this time and avoid the possibility of something "being found."  It has become a regular "holiday" in the industry and creates its own capacity shortage and disruption much like Christmas or the 4th of July.  In an already tight market, that makes for a fun and interesting week.  So no matter if you are a driver, shipper or dispatcher be prepared for the inevitable delays and frustrations that will surely come.

Remember when holidays meant you could relax and take a break...
