Dear Volunteers of the Honeycomb Project,

On Sunday, June 4th, the HLC traveled to Sacred Grounds to cook a delicious dinner for the guests living there. We used ingredients bought from Whole Foods Market prior to, to cook the meal. With guidance from Kristina Lowenstein and Breeze Fromm-Sarto from Honeycomb, w e took initiative in creating the menu as well as cooking the food. The menu included freshly grilled burgers, potato wedges, salad with an assortment of toppings and homemade salad dressing, and angel cake with a variety of fresh berries.

Once the cooking began, we were readily available for any help needed at the various stations. All hands were on deck, whether it was molding raw burger meat, chopping potatoes, or even washing the fruit. This effective system led to a smooth cooking process done in a timely manner. We all worked together in perfect harmony creating this meal. Once finished, we participated in playing games, like Jenga and bean bag toss, as well as chatting with the guests staying in the Sacred Grounds housing program. We introduced ourselves and had regular conversations with them. Through this project, we were able to learn more about the residents as people with a variety of life experiences beyond the monolithic classification of homeless. This experience helped to bring to life what we had been discussing about how invalid the stereotypes of homelessness that many paint in their minds were.

Overall, this project was extremely successful, fun, and educational all in one! We hope to see you at the next Honeycomb Volunteer project soon!

Yours Truly,
The Honeycomb Leadership Council
