Weekend Lineup
Ennis Czech Music Fest
Plus Barefoot Becky & Alex Meixner in Texas!

The 12th Annual Ennis Czech Music Festival is this Saturday! I'll see you there starting Friday night with the Polka On! Pre-Party in the Sokol Hall Clubroom. Out of the Box will provide the entertainment & I have some cool stuff to give away for door prizes. The festival gets going at 1 pm on Saturday. Five polka bands - Czech & Then Some, The Moravians, Ennis Czech Boys, Czech Harvesters, and Jodie Mikula Orchestra - provide music all day long. New this year: Texas Folklife is hosting a Big Squeeze Accordion Contest Showcase, looking for some polka talent. Accordionists 25 and under are invited to audition for a chance to reach the finals in April. The showcase will be held from 4:30-5 pm. Contestants will be accompanied by members of Czech & Then Some. After contestants perform, enjoy a special performance by David Slovak (CATS) on the piano accordion, Charlie Patak (Czech Harvesters) on the chromatic accordion, and Jerry Petter (Vanek Czech Band) on the button accordion.

WEEKLY LAUGH
A husband and wife who worked for the circus went to an adoption agency. The social workers there raised doubts about their suitability. The couple then produced photos of their 50-foot motor home, which is clean, well maintained, and equipped with a beautiful nursery.

The social workers then raised concerns about the education a child would receive while in the couple's care. "We've arranged for a full-time tutor who will teach the child all the usual subjects along with French, Mandarin, and computer skills."

Then the social workers expressed concern about a child being raised in a circus environment. "Our nanny is a certified expert in pediatric care, welfare, and diet."

The social workers were finally satisfied. They asked, "What age child are you hoping to adopt?"

"It doesn't really matter, as long as the kid fits in the cannon."
