Summer Content Area Team (CAT) Observations
The Trust will conduct CAT observations at all summer programs (programs with multiple locations will receive at minimum a single site visit), including year-round programs that may not have been observed in the past. Visits will take place between June 19 and June 30. Given the number of observers available within this short time frame, only one observer (rather than a pair) will conduct the visit, and the exact timing will need to be flexible within the specified date range, based on your daily programming schedule. All CAT observers will plan to see at least one literacy activity and one fitness activity, as well as observe overall behavior management. The most useful feedback stems from observations that take place on a typical program day. No need for extra preparation; simply continue to provide high-quality services. You'll hardly notice your observer is there!
Please ensure that your contract manager has your final summer sites schedules no later than June 1, so we can take that information into account when planning visits. Be sure schedules include daily programming, activity names/times (especially for literacy and fitness) and any planned field trips. Questions or comments? FREE Summer Meals for Children & Youth - Sign Up TODAY!!
Summer BreakSpot, a program that provides free meals to children and youth ages birth-18 in participating summer programs, is underway. We encourage ALL children and youth summer program providers to contact available sponsors today to secure participation at each of their program sites. Be sure to confirm available menus (hot or cold) and delivery times BEFORE making a decision on which sponsor best meets the needs of your participants and program environment.
In addition, we strongly urge providers to designate their program sites as “open sites,” where children and youth ages birth-18 living in their communities may also participate in the free meals program, even if they do not participate in provider programming. Open sites serve a critical role in minimizing food insecurity in Miami-Dade while schools are closed and are, for some children, a literal lifesaver. The Children’s Trust is also supporting Florida Impact efforts to increase accessibility to summer meals for those children who have no access to open sites, through pediatric clinics and WIC and HUB sites. Citi Foundation, in partnership with America’s Promise, has launched the Youth Workforce Fund, a competitive Request for Ideas (RFI) program seeking to make strategic investments in nonprofit community-based organizations that connect low- and moderate-income youth ages 16-24 with workplace skills and employment opportunities, including internships, apprenticeships and full-time jobs. One-year grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded.
