SBA WEEKLY UPDATES:
February 12, 2018
Abstinence from Meat during Lent
As we begin the Lenten season, a reminder to families that the cafeteria will not be serving meat on Ash Wednesday, February 14, and on all Fridays through Easter. There will be plenty of non-meat options from which students can choose for lunch.  The tradition of a bstinence from meat  was meant to be an act of penitence in remembrance of Good Friday on which Christ was crucified and died.

Shoe Drive
From now until mid-April, SBA will be hosting a shoe drive.  All SBA families are asked to collect 25 pairs of new or gently worn pairs of shoes of all styles and sizes.  These shoes will be donated to individuals in underprivileged countries.  Forty cents for every pound of shoes collected will be donated back to SBA toward the cost of transportation for those students attending a Youth Conference at Franciscan University this summer. Shoes can be brought into Room 28 or sent into SBA c/o Miss Violi.  Please email [email protected]  with questions.

Academic Reminders

Academic Probation
Beginning the week of February 5, students who currently have an F in any of their classes will be placed on academic probation. Students on probation will have the week to improve their grades, and if academic progress has been made by Friday, students will be eligible to participate in activities the following week. Students and parents have access to grades online at any time. Students on academic probation may not attend practices, meetings, or rehearsals until the grade has increased. The athletic director, drama director, and coaches will be notified of academic standings on a weekly basis. (Student Handbook page 11 - Academic Standing)

Daily Attendance
Daily attendance is necessary to meet academic success, and continued absences inhibit the ability for students to successfully complete course work. If a student is absent for more than twenty (20) days for the year, she must make up missed time during the school year and must attend summer school if course time is not made up by the end of the school year. Any student who accumulates more than 20.00 absences in the school year must make up time lost in order to receive credit for classes. Also, report cards, diplomas, transcripts, and/or course schedules will be withheld if excessive absence time has been accrued.

Failure of a Course
Any student who has failed a course in the first semester MUST improve her grade and receive a passing grade in quarter 3. If a student fails the same course in quarter 3, she will fail the course for the year and be expected to retake and pass the course in the summer. (Student Handbook p.12 and p.18). Parents are responsible for payment of the summer course.

Tutoring
Students can receive academic support and tutoring through NHS and meeting with teachers.
