The Museum of Transportation is a proud partner of the St. Louis County Library Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Club kicked-off on May 22 and will run through August 5. Artifact of the month

This is no 'ordinary' bicycle!

Well, actually it is an 'ordinary' bicycle.

Wm. Read & Sons was a prominent retailer of guns and other sporting goods in Boston, Massachusetts from 1826 until the 1940's. One product they sold was this type bicycle shown in the photo. This high wheel design, called an "ordinary," is generally recognized as the first "bicycle." In addition to being known as an "ordinary," it is also sometimes called a "penny-farthing" in reference to English coins.

The Museum of Transportation Wm. Read & Sons 'ordinary' is currently on display in the 'Trails & Tails' Exhibit in The William R. and Laura Rand Orthwein Education & Visitor Center.

Unveiling

May 20th, 2017, marked the unveiling of two extraordinary restoration projects recently completed at the Museum of Transportation. Projects unveiled included the Wabash #573 and New York Central #2933.

Blue Star Dedication

Our servicemen and women bravely share stories of boarding airplanes, trains, and boats as they headed off to or returned from service. We are grateful for your service.

Transportation played such a significant role in each war. The Museum of Transportation proudly became the 100th Missouri Blue Star Memorial Garden on Memorial Day, 2017.

Plant Yourself at the Museum

Garden Volunteers make everything more beautiful at the Museum of Transportation. Each Thursday from 8 am - 11 am, we tackle a different location on our 42-acre campus. Join us!

On May 16th, members of Clayton Garden Club installed sustainable native plants around Barrett Station to add color, beauty, and habitat for birds and butterflies. The plantings included aromatic aster, orange coneflower, and columbine.

On May 12th, students from Parkway's SPARK! program volunteered at the Museum of Transportation to pull weeds and plant some sustainable native wildflowers.
