SPEAKER HIGHLIGHT: MONA PASQUIL ROGERS
CONFERENCE CHAIRWOMAN

Working with Governor Brown to build his administration from the ground up since 2011, Secretary Mona Pasquil Rogers is chiefly responsible for recruiting, vetting, and appointing thousands of top government positions in agencies, departments, boards, commissions, and courts across California. She has been described as the "gatekeeper to power and status" in California government and as one of the top 20 most influential political figures in the state. Prior to her service in Governor Brown's Executive Cabinet, Secretary Pasquil Rogers served as Chief of Staff to CA Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi. After Garamendi was elected to Congress, she was elevated to the position of Acting Lieutenant Governor until then-Governor Schwarzenegger named Garamendi's replacement. This marked the first time a woman, Asian Pacific Islander, or Filipino-American has served as Lieutenant Governor of California.

Secretary Pasquil Rogers is most proud of her work empowering women and communities of color to serve in appointed positions and run for elected office. She is President of the California Asian Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus Institute and Vice President of California Women Lead, California's flagship organization supporting female candidates for elected or appointed office. Also passionate about engaging youth to become more active in their local communities, Secretary Pasquil Rogers founded the Asian Pacific Youth Leadership Project of California, an organization dedicated to broadening Asian and Pacific Islander youth involvement in California policy.
