What is Change the Current?

Some have wondered and a few have asked, why are we encouraging you to Change the Current?

Currently, our city, the utilities industry, and the make-up of our population is changing. We're exploring new ways to power our future with renewable electric generation. We're using less chemicals and more natural organisms and substances to treat water. We're depending more on clean-burning natural gas to support the energy and economic needs of our nation.

Scrubber test far exceeds performance targets

We recently conducted a 30-day performance test of the scrubber system, designed to reduce sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from the Martin Drake Power Plant, and we're excited to announce it passed with flying colors.

Over the course of 30 days of testing, the system far exceeded the target SO2 removal required to meet new Regional Haze SO2 mandates that become effective at the end of this year. This Environmental Protection Agency program was created in an effort to improve air quality in national parks and wilderness areas, and out of it, regulations were established to limit emissions from coal-fired power plants. Learn what's behind the tap

Colorado Springs is our home. We drink the same water you do and we follow each drop from source to source, so the water we put back in the environment is safe, too. We have six facilities working around the clock to treat our water and supply it to your home. We're happy to show you how we deliver some of the highest-quality water in America in this new video.
Hot tips to stay cool this summer
Beat the Colorado heat and use energy efficiently with these tips:
  • Keep your home cooler with ENERGY STAR® light bulbs that produce about 70 percent less heat than old ones.
  • Close window blinds and shades to keep the sun from heating your house.
  • Run your ceiling fan to create a cool breeze. Remember to turn fans off when you leave the room.
  • Install a programmable thermostat and set it for savings. We recommend setting your air conditioner at 78 degrees when at home and 85 degrees or higher when away for more than four hours.
