C ANTO and Huawei Technologies Panama co-hosted the CANTO Stakeholder Invitational in Panama on May 12th, 2017 at the Hard Rock Hotel Panama Megalopolis. The event was held on the heels of the 134th Board of Directors' meeting.

The CANTO Stakeholder Invitational addressed Operators, Regulators and persons in the ICT sector at a media conference and brunch. Belize Captures First Place in CANTO's Video Competition

Belize is no stranger to the CANTO WTISD competition as the country boasts of four (4) first place winners since the inception of the competition. The proud winner of the 11th annual WTISD Video Competition is 18 year old Jo-Elisa Clarke who hails from Calcutta Village, Belize.
The winning video demonstrated ways of promoting and disseminating information to customers using technology. She used a water company to demonstrate how technology can develop a small business which could impact the entire country of Belize.  

 

Strengthening Cooperation Between Telecommunications Operators and National Disaster Offices in Caribbean Countries - ECLAC  

 
I n Caribbean countries, modern telecommunications infrastructure is vulnerable to an array of natural disasters, as exemplified by the impacts of Tropical Storm Erika in Dominica, Hurricane Joaquin in the Bahamas, and Hurricane Earl in Belize. At the same time, telecommunications service -especially mobile telephony and data services- can provide invaluable support to disaster management efforts by facilitating communication, coordination, and intelligence collection during emergency situations. Thus, as a matter of public safety, ensuring the resilience of telecommunications infrastructure in the face of natural hazards is of national importance.  One way this resilience can be enhanced is by strengthening the relationship between operators of telecommunications services and national disaster offices. This paper suggests numerous areas for engagement between these entities and recommends the development of more formalized frameworks for mutual support. Among other issues, it considers needs for improvements to information sharing practices, collaboration on public early warning systems, and the inclusion of telecommunications operators in disaster drilling exercises. C ANTO in collaboration with the Hon. Maxie Cuffie, MP La Horqueatta/ Talpora, partnered with Bmobile and the University of Trinidad & Tobago (UTT) to host the North Eastern Secondary Schools ICT Expo on Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the UTT, O'Meara Campus.
The event, which was the brainchild of Minister Cuffie and CANTO's Secretary General Teresa Wankin, was held under the theme "Demonstrating ICTs as a Viable Career Choice!".  It was created to expose secondary school students from the North Eastern region to the myriad of career choices in ICTs. Pond Island -TelEm Group's new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Kendall Dupersoy, officially took office in the company's main building on Pond Island Wednesday morning, where he was greeted by a welcoming party of Supervisory Board and Management Board members.

Vice-Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Directors, Mr. Paul Marshall, delivered the official introductory remarks followed by a short response by the new CEO, who was also welcomed in by board member, Mr. Stephen Constance, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Mr. Brian Mingo and Chief Technical Officer (CTO) Mr. Eldert Louisa. Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Mrs. Helma Etnel, who was away on business Wednesday, sent a personal message of welcome to Mr. Dupersoy in her absence.

Mr. Marshall said a closed door introductory meeting was held with Mr. Dupersoy during which pledges were made for good working relations, especially in support of the new CEO's vision for the company going forward. Read More
