Dear BFCCPS Community, 
 
We hope you enjoy a glimpse at the colorful plaster cast hands that our seventh grade students have been making with Mrs. Sunday. Speaking of Art, if your child in Grade three through seven loves art, be sure to read below about the After-school Art Club that will begin in early March! The student council will also be hosting a Paint Night on February 16th for students in Grades 5-8.  Please find details on both activities in the body of today's newsletter. 

More than fifty three competitors have registered for this week's Spelling Bee! Due to today's early dismissal we have rescheduled the first round to Thursday, February 8th the final round will be held on Friday, February 9th at 1pm. Good luck and best wishes to all of the participants!

2018-2019 Enrollment Applications Now Available: 
  
Enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is now open!  If you have a sibling eligible for Kindergarten or looking to join us in Grades 1-8 please be sure to complete an application!

We hope you will also tell family, friends and neighbors with children eligible for Grades Kindergarten and Eight about your experiences at BFCCPS and encourage them to apply!  After all, word of mouth is the very best form of advertisement! 

Applications can be  filled out online and hard copies are also available in the front office.  All applications must be received before February 28th by 4pm. Late applications will not be accepted. Please contact  Mrs. Basile with any enrollment related questions.

Announcements: 
Sixth Grade Valentine Sale:

The sixth grade will once again be selling hand-made Valentines to raise money for  Students in grades 3-8 can purchase Valentines during their lunches from January 29-February 12 . Parents can purchase Valentines by sending completed forms and money to school via their children's homeroom teachers.  At this time, only single valentines are available for sale. The package sales are complete.  Please be sure to send your children in with the proper change to streamline the process. Please see this post on our website for further details. 
 
Jeans & Pajama Days

BFCCPS students and staff are invited to participate in a variety of Jeans Days and Pajama Days to support a variety of causes. 
  • February 9th: Jeans with a $1 donation to benefit Alumnus Jack Basile's PMC Ride.
Spring Flower Sale

Potted bulbs, spring flowers and Easter Lillies.  Orders will be accepted February 5 through March 9 with pickup to be held on March 23rd.   Please visit this page for more information and an order form.

Arts Night:

Student Council will be hosting a Paint Night for students in Grades 5-8 on Friday, February 16th from 6-8 PM.  Tickets are $20 each and students can purchase a ticket from their Student Council homeroom rep. 

Spring Musical: 

Save the date for the p erformances of "A Pirate's Life for Me" which will be held on Friday, March 2 rd  from 7 - 9:30 PM and Saturday, March 3rd from 2 - 4:30 PM at the Horace Mann Auditorium. Pre-sales are only accepted till March 1st.   Click to download the Advance Ticket Order Form! 

The musical is seeking donations for the concession stand and the cast party, as well as, volunteers to run the concession stand. Donations can be dropped off at the BFCCPS main office on Wed Feb. 28 and Thurs. March 1 (with exception of the cast party ice cream which should be brought directly to the party). Afterschool Art Club

Can't get enough Art?  Mrs. Sunday will be offering afterschool Art Club in Grades 3-7.  Art club is a great way for your student to have more opportunities to create art and try new things!  The course is $80 for the eight week session.  A registration form will be available soon!

Aluminum Can Tab Collection

Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield & Boston have been collecting pull tabs from beverage cans since 1989.  They recycle and put the money towards programs that benefit children in need.
As a school we will be collecting can tabs from soda cans, soup cans etc.  They can be placed in Miss Rampino's mailbox.  


A PCO sponsored Arts Enrichment assembly has been re-scheduled for Thursday, February 8th.  Sheryl Faye Presents Historical Women will be presenting Sally Ride to grades 5-8 at 9:20 and grades K-4 at 10:20. 

Please note that the assembly times may be adjusted if we have any weather related delays for school on Thursday.

2,4,6,8 Who Do We Appreciate?

The PCO is looking for a volunteer or team of volunteers to chair Teacher & Staff Appreciation 2018.  This will take place during the month of May. The target dates are Friday, May 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th.

Health Office Update:  
  
Cold and flu season is here! Please read the  flu guide for parents.

Cough drops in school: Please remember that cough drops, per the state regulations for schools, are considered an over the counter medication that requires doctor's order and parent permission on file and for them to be administered by the school nurse.  If you have not already given permission for cough drops, the form can be printed  here  or found on the  Health Office website  under the tab "medication administration". Any completed form should be sent in to the Health Office.

A Notice from the Central Office: 

Visitors:   All visitors to the school are required to sign in at the Front Office and wear a Visitor's badge. Visitors must be escorted at all times.  Thank you for your help with this!
 
Parking & Parking Lot Safety: Parking is not allowed in marked reserved spots near the schools main entrance. These spots are reserved for the CCD program staff. 

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:  Please adhere to the posted arrival and dismissal procedures which are posted  here our website.

Over the winter months, we ask that you do not park on Queen Street to walk in and pick up your children. The Queen Street entrance can be narrow at this time of year due to accumulated snow and or ice making this practice potentially unsafe for both drivers and walkers.  We ask that you please utilize the Express Lane procedures or arrive at Courtyard Dismissal (approximately 3:20) to secure a spot to park in the lot once the general traffic has cleared.

Absence and Dismissal Notification: If your child will be absent or tardy from school, Please contact Mrs. Tappin at  ltappin@bfccps.org or at  leave a voice message at the absent and tardy line 508-541-3434 and press 4.  Additionally, if you have to make any dismissal changes please email both your child(ren)'s homeroom teacher AND Mrs. Laura Tappin by email at  ltappin@bfccps.org by no later than 2 pm.

As a reminder, BFCCPS has an  extended absence policy which indicates that extended absences for non-medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days will not be approved and will result in dis-enrollment from BFCCPS unless caused by exceptional and unavoidable circumstances, such as a natural disaster, serious accident, or other situation deemed exceptional and unavoidable by the HOS.

Cold weather has arrived!  Please be sure to send your students daily with seasonally appropriateouterwear. We will continue to have outdoor courtyard, recess and dismissal whenever possible.
