Raul, one of our "field" employees , has grown these peppers on the farm and strung them up into beautiful chili ristras.
The strings are great for hanging in your kitchen as decorations and the dried flakes add a little spice to recipes.  Only $10 each ristra...while they last!

What's in this week's Box
Grown on our farm using organic farming methods:
radish, English peas, lettuce, Brussel Sprouts,  broccoli, potatoes,
The cucumbers are grown by Ocean Breeze Farms in Nipomo...pesticide free.
The Zutano avocados are grown by David Righetti in San Luis Obispo...pesticide free.
The Mandarin Oranges are grown by Bob Polito in San Diego County...pesticide free.

English "shelling" peas. You need to remove the peas from the outside pod and then enjoy the peas raw in a salad or lightly steam or saute. Let the kids "shell" out the peas...they'll have a good time and probably eat most of them before they finish...not a bad snack!

Brussel Sprouts...is the new "IN" vegetable!
You may see a few aphids on the sprouts...not to worry, you should be able to get most of them off by spraying them in your sink with a strong stream of water.
An easy recipe:
Wash off the sprouts, cut them in half, coat with a little olive oil, garlic powder and salt and pepper, spread them out single layer on a cookie sheet ( don't crowd them ) and roast in your oven at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes, turning once or twice until crispy on the outside.  You can add a little Balsamic vinegar before you roast them if desired

The "Sierra Gold" potatoes are great for baking, roasting, mashing or frying. No need to peel off the outer skin, just scrub off the dirt and cook with the skins left on ( much of the nutrients in a potato are in the skins!). They have a nice sweet taste and a yellow, creamy insides.
