Stories of Faith:  Congregational Care

For the last several years, James Goins has been one of Noel's most faithful    volunteers. Every Monday he arrives early in the morning to assist in counting the Sunday offering. He is also a Congregational Care Minister (CCM),  making hospital visits and serving      communion to Noel's homebound members. James has faithfully fulfilled his duties each month, always reporting on his visits and letting the pastors know of any special needs.

So it was no surprise that after suffering a stroke on the morning of Monday, April 3, one of James' first concerns was to let Melissa Sloan know that he would not be in to count money that day.   Within a few days, while still hospitalized himself, James' concern turned to his CCM duties. He had been taking communion to Sally Montgomery and wanted to make sure that his illness did not     prevent her from receiving communion. His instructions were to either make sure that someone else took her communion or, "You can pick me up and take me."

Five weeks to the day after his stroke, James was once again fulfilling his congregational care ministry. I had the privilege of chauffeuring him to Sally's home at Savannah at The Oaks and receiving communion along with Sally as James led us in the liturgy and served us. His dedication to Noel and its ministries is a testament of his faith and his faithfulness.         Well done, James!
