Opera, Artists & Obstacle Courses!

The Panama City Music Association continues their 76th season on Sunday, February 11. Giacoma Puccini's timeless opera Madama Butterfly will fill the Marina Civic Center stage with the international cast of the acclaimed Teatro Lirico d'Europe touring opera company. The title character of Madama Butterfly is one of the defining roles in opera. Cio-Cio-san, a young geisha, clings to the belief that her marriage to an American naval officer is a loving and permanent one. The story, accessible and engaging, based on a literary work, sparks ideas about cultural and racial bias. The lyric beauty of Puccini's score, especially the music for the thoroughly believable lead role, has made Madama Butterfly timeless.

Meet the People Behind Some of Panama City's Best Restaurants

Overlooking beautiful St. Andrew's Bay, with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico, and benefiting from diverse cultures, Panama City offers an abundance of unique culinary experiences. With charming restaurants speckling the city, from the iconic oyster bars and seafood shacks to laid-back waterfront dives, there's a reason why foodies love Panama City! We want to introduce you to the talented people behind the restaurants we all love.

Meet Jameson Hammond, Bartender at Black & White Tavern

How would you describe the Black & White Tavern?
Classical family setting, upscale food, good music and friendly!

What dish would you recommend to a first-time visitor?
Panned seared scallops, which is four Uten diver scallops on top of low county style red rice, tossed in smoked tomato butter.

What is your favorite cocktail to make?
Blood orange margarita

When you aren't making craft cocktails, where is your favorite place to relax in Panama City?
Mosey's Downtown. It has a laid-back vibe. Great live music and the pizza is fantastic. I've also known the owner, since I was three...so that helps.

If money wasn't a problem, what four places in Panama City would you spend the most money?
g. Foley's, the upstairs bar at Uncle Ernie's and Hunt's Oyster Bar because I love the oysters there.

Let's say, you're showing your out of town friend what life is like in Panama City. What would you do and where would you take them?
We would drive down beach drive on July 4th (I'm being very specific), set up our lawn chairs, because it's one of the best spots to watch the sunset and see the fireworks. Then take them to see Downtown Panama City and Historic St. Andrews because there is a ton of stuff going on and live music everywhere. Then take them back to mom's house for homemade ice cream. She makes the best ice cream!

Why is the glass always half full in Panama City?
Because before you finish your drink, we are already asking if you're ready for another.
