Do you "Drive S.A.F.E."?

How often do you consider that there are far more serious consequences to unsafe driving than just getting ticketed? In most states, if you killed or injured someone because of distracted driving or playing a role in a road rage incident, you could be criminally charged.

Risky driving habits typically develop over time and can be hard to break. Before each trip:
  • Give yourself ample time to get where you're going. Not only does it feel good to be early and not rushed, you can significantly reduce your chances of being involved in a crash.
  • Make a commitment to pay attention to the task at hand, mentally and physically. Be on the lookout for inattentive drivers and drive defensively.
  • Get enough rest to help ensure peak mental awareness so you can react to hazards that may require split-second maneuvers.
  • Remain in control of your emotions and act responsibly. Put space between you and motorists whose actions aren't sensible.
Drive S.A.F.E. has one goal: to help keep you and your loved ones out of harm's way. Read more.

NLBMDA Submits Comments to EPA on Regulatory Reform

Earlier this month, National Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) submitted written comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding evaluation of existing regulations. EPA is seeking comments as part of President Trump's Executive Order (EO) 13777, which directs federal agencies to establish a Regulatory Reform Task Force and make recommendations.

In its comments, NLBMDA focused on ways to improve EPA's Lead: Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) rule. Seven years after the rule took effect, EPA has still not approved a lead paint test kit that meets the rule's false positive standard of no more than 10 percent false positives. Moreover, the opt-out provision - allowing homeowners living in pre-1978 homes without a pregnant woman or child under age six to opt-out of the rule's requirements - was removed soon after the rule took effect substantially increasing compliance costs. NLBMDA supports reinstatement of the opt-out provision. In addition, NLBMDA addressed issues related to enforcement and contractor recertification.

NLBMDA agrees with the intent of the RRP rule but reforms are needed to ensure safety from lead exposure. Click here to read NLBMDA 's comments.

Employers and employees need to pay attention to their bodies if working outside in the hot, humid heat. Understand the signs of things like dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke to ensure necessary precautions are being taken. Here are three hot facts you need to know:

1. Heat is the deadliest weather event - killing an average of 658 people a year in the US

2. According to NASA, when the temperature reaches 95 degrees work output drops by 45%.

3. You are at danger of heatstroke at temperatures over 80 degrees with a humidity level of 75%.
