Chinook Salmon Closed Until June 15th in the Juneau Area
Because of low abundance of Chinook salmon on the Taku River, AKF&G has issued an emergency closure in the area around Juneau.

Social and Ecological Consequences of Regulatory Change in the Alaska Recreational Halibut Fishery
ACA members participated in a new study to learn about how fishing patterns and areas change in response to new regulations, economic ups and downs, and the results are quite interesting. Anne Beaudreau, lead author, reports: "Our research contributes new information on the impacts of regulatory and environmental changes on the Pacific halibut sport charter fishing industry in Alaska, an important and understudied fishery sector. We are examining patterns of resource use and responses by charter operators to regulatory, environmental, and socioeconomic changes in Alaska halibut fisheries over the last three decades." Rep. Don Young drafts House version of Magnuson-Stevens update
U.S.A. Fisheries Law is overdue for review, revision and renewal.
The Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA) is the "constitution" that sets up the regulation and sustainable management of our marine fisheries.
ACA encourages all recreational anglers, charter operators, and skippers to learn more about the national discussions and final decisions on the Act. Alaska Congressman Don Young has offered the House Version of the new MSA, H.R. 200. There are a lot of encouraging amendments to the old MSA, including flexibility in management, and using alternative management strategies for recreational fisheries. Let's be a part of this process.
