Dear School Families,
"
Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.
" Ash Wednesday is a beautiful reminder that we are called to ask for forgiveness and believe in the Gospel. Lent gives us an opportunity to change and become a better version of ourselves and to be more like Jesus. When Ash Wednesday lands on the secular calendar date of February 14th, a day that celebrates love and joy with the indulgences of candy, sweets and "stuff," it makes us pause to think: "How do we do this on Ash Wednesday, which is the start of prayer, fasting and almsgiving to prepare us for Christ's resurrection on Easter?" This is an amazing teachable moment for our children. This is the reason why we are celebrating Valentine's Day on Tuesday, February 13. This allows the students to enjoy that day and then keep Ash Wednesday as a holy day. I encourage you and your family to take this time during Lent to strengthen your relationship with Jesus. I am attaching a sheet that has 10 activities for Catholic families during Lent and Holy Week that you might find helpful.
We are asking families to share their testimony on Faith, Family and Community at Holy Rosary School and Holy Rosary Church. This is a great opportunity to get to know each other as family. We are on this spiritual journey, raising children, and facing challenges and successes together. My hope is that we join together as family, cultivate friendships, and acknowledge each other in the hallways, at school events and in church.
We pray for our 7th and 8th graders who are participating in the Diocese of Oakland Science Fair this Saturday. The students will be presenting their projects to a panel of esteemed judges.
We have a fun town hall planned to kick off our Jump for Heart event tomorrow. Join us at 8:15 a.m. in the gym.
In Partnership,

Classroom News
8th grade traveled to the Martinez Superior Courts to see the judicial system in action. They are starting the unit on the Declaration of Independence in history class. In religion, they are wrapping up their journey with St. Paul and will begin on the commissioning of Peter.
1st graders are learning to compare numbers to show greater than or less than. They are also learning how to summarize important details of a chapter story.
3rd graders are reading about the Civil Rights Movement and important leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges. The standard on information reading (main idea, using text to answer questions, character traits, cause and effect, context clues and sequence of events) is leading the students to have great class discussions and the students are displaying deep critical thinking skills.
Celebrating 100 days of school with 100th day crowns, 100 songs,100 snacks,100 stickers,100+ friends!
