What a powerful leadership team we have! It was a huge pleasure to work with many of our NAWBO California board members as well as leaders and members from our chapters to create the inspiration, motivation, education and public policy engagement opportunity for us all. I cannot possibly name all who helped make it possible, but I especially want to publicly call out Hilary Kennedy and Laura Neubauer for your leadership and in-the-trenches help; Laura Russell-Jones and Betsy Berkhemer-Credaire for tirelessly working to secure sponsors and your mentorship; Diane de Mailly, Reenie Lane, Lori Kammerer and Jann Taber for leading our public policy focus and creating such great interaction with our lawmakers; Pattie Grimm for helping secure technology speakers and creating video interviews of attendees; Laura Hansen for lining up contacts to help secure speakers; and Deatrice Lockhart for being my right hand and weekend/late-night soulmate donating countless hours. Schenae Rourk, Transportation & Infrastructure Chair, was elected as the Chair of the
Transportation Business Advisory Council. The TBAC was implemented as a result of a 1992 law to advise Metro on their DBE and now SBE/DVBE programs.
TBAC
is open to the general public and business owners to connect and learn more about upcoming opportunities and initiatives.

Propel 2017 - A Valuable Return on Our Investment
As promised, the Propel Your Business Conference 2017 was an incredible experience for all in attendance,  whether speaker, attendee or onlooker. The energy was contagious and it started in the planning when the team determined that we would heighten the technology so that we could engage the Next Generation of Women Business Owners. When the app was sent to registrants, Game On. Registrants posted pictures of packing in process, luggage curbside, and airport monuments.
Entrepreneurs Edge, coupled with the National Leadership Development Training, provided participants with an intimate setting to work "on the business" vs "in the business." Mary Lynn Baker posted in the app, "Had a great day of learning lots of marketing ideas with Katrina Sawa. We talked about all the social media ways to promote our business....I am learning so much I can't wait to start the action."
The conference kicked off with our Chairperson of the Conference, Anne Staines' challenge to "be present" and to "intentionally" engage for the day and a half of learning. And "engage" is what conference delegates did.The speakers were experts in their field, in fact, the top of their game, providing tips and tools for immediate implementation for business owners.With laptops, iPads and tablets on the tables, the Propel participants were putting in place new strategies to grow their bottom line in real time.
The Public PolicyTeam outdid themselves, delivering state legislators on both sides of the aisle at the
Monday night reception and Tuesday morning during the legislative panel.
Highlighting the conference was the announcement of the 2017 Woman Business Owner of the Year (WBOY). Many congratulations to Tina Loza, Loza & Loza, LLP, Inland Empire Chapter. As a new addition to the program, the WBOY delivered remarks during the Tuesday program and Tina provided authentic and inspirational remarks about growing a successful intellectual law firm, while rearing three boys. She said when she called them to share her victory, they asked her, "What do Loza's do? Work Hard and Do Hard Work!" We are so proud of Tina.
Each chapter visited the capital, meeting with state legislators in their area. Chapter leaders highlighted NAWBO-CA's areas of interest, including seeking to draft a bill to have women on the corporate boards of publicly held companies in CA and streamlining efforts to assist small businesses in winning government contracts.
The 2017 Propel Your Business conference was a rich experience for all in attendance. The plans for the 2018 conference are already in the works. Mark your calendar now for Sacramento, April 22-24.

Congratulations to NAWBO California's 2017 Business Woman of The Year Recipient: Christina Loza
It was a special evening at the historic Sutter Club in Sacramento, as Renee Frazier, a prior recipient of this award, recognized all the nominees from across the state. But with back to back wins, NAWBO Inland Empire's nominee, Tina (Christina) Loza was voted the ultimate winner.
This annual award, given at the Propel Your Business Conference,
recognizes a NAWBO woman business owner who has demonstrated excellent leadership skills and business acumen leading to a successful business endeavor. Additionally, she is an inspiration to others, an outstanding role model for business owners, and is recognized and well respected within her community.
After 12 years in business, Tina's law firm Loza & Loza has nearly 50 attorneys and is projected to pass the10 million-dollar mark in revenue in 2017.
Her proven success with the tenure and satisfaction of her professional team mirrors her outreach to the community and social impact in local and regional youth and family venues
and organizations.Tina's ability to give back is not just a kind gesture, she
believes it to be a responsibility and it is part of her DNA to make the greater community
stronger.
When people think of Tina, they speak about "her positive energy and leadership style [that] keeps us inspired and motivated to be within her circle of influence. She has demonstrated that women can be successful leaders in business and our community!"

Loza & Loza practices areas of intellectual property law including trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets, domain name disputes, internet law, eBay dispute resolution, as well as IP licensing, counseling, and litigation.
Tina is a board member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) - California and is a former President of NAWBO-CA and the NAWBO-IE Chapter. Additionally, she sits on the Board of Directors at the Los Angeles County Fair Association.
Tina also teaches at Laverne University as an adjunct professor in an effort to inspire future attorneys.
