FEATURED EVENT: Graduations
Last week, HSD celebrated graduations and, for the first time, all of our comprehensive high schools held their ceremonies outdoors at the Hillsboro Stadium. The weather was not totally on our side, but it was an impressive venue that nearly doubled our viewing capacity, and no amount of rain could dampen the pride of accomplishment felt by our graduates. Photo galleries and video from each ceremony will be posted as soon as possible this week to the Graduation  page of our website. Congratulations, class of 2017!

Budget Update
On Thursday, June 8, the Oregon Senate voted 25-5 to approve the $8.2 billion State School Fund appropriation bill (SB5517). The vote moves to the House this week. This allocation represents an improvement from the previous proposal of $7.8 billion, but would still leave Hillsboro School District several million dollars short of what would be needed to maintain a current service level (HSD would need a state-level allocation of $8.5 billion to maintain CSL). Meanwhile, House and Senate democratic leadership have reached agreement on a compromise corporate tax plan, and two pieces of legislation have been introduced to control state costs. HAPPENING IN HILLSBORO

Creating positive relationships takes time and effort, not only as you're developing and sustaining them, but also as they come to a close. If students will be at your building again next year, encourage them to come back and let them know you look forward to seeing them in the fall. For those who may be transitioning, consider sharing a piece of helpful advice for the next portion of their journey. You never know when you might run into current or former students and/or families, so take some time to reflect on how you'd like to be remembered. Read more in the June edition of OSP Connected.

Revenue Town Hall
Join our local elected officials for a Revenue Town Hall this Friday, June 16, starting at 6:30 p.m., in Room 104 at PCC Willow Creek, 241 SW Edgeway Drive, Beaverton, 97006. As our legislators move closer to determining a state budget and collaborating on a possible cost-containment and revenue-generation package, your voice is needed now more than ever. If you cannot attend the event, you are still encouraged to contact our elected officials to share your thoughts.

Stop by and check out HSD's young entrepreneurs at the Teen Market and, this Tuesday, visit the Hillsboro 2035 celebration featuring community organizations that are working to implement the projects that are most important to Hillsboro residents. With a theme of STEAMpunk, the event promises to be informative and fun for everyone.

Cultural Arts Plan Survey

Earlier this spring, as the first phase in their creation of a Cultural Arts Plan, City staff held listening sessions to gather feedback on the types of cultural arts opportunities community members would like to see in Hillsboro. Now, they are asking people to complete a brief survey to prioritize and share their thoughts on a variety of options. The survey is open through June 30, and those who complete it will be entered to win one of several prizes, including Hillsboro Hops tickets and a $50 gift certificate to Supermercados Mexico.

Hillsboro Hosts Pix on the Plaza

In what has become a summer tradition, the City of Hillsboro will host three Pix on the Plaza events, in which a major motion picture is shown on the Civic Center Plaza, free of charge. The first will be "The Secret Life of Pets" this Friday, June 16, with activities and performances starting at 7 p.m. and the movie starting at dusk.
