Celebrate Black History Month with this classic program in the Abbitt Planetarium that takes us back to the days when freedom was nothing more than a dream for those held in slavery. Some looked to the stars for hope and guidance. The story is a poignant and inspiring tale of one African-American family's desperate flight to freedom and how they used constellations to guide the way.
Cost: FREE admission to show, no Museum admission required.

From STEM to STEAM in the Twenty-first Century
Speaker: Marjorie Güisao-Wallace
Ms. Güisao-Wallace has been an educator for over 19 years and is currently teaching seventh-grade Life Sciences at Huntington Middle School in Newport News, Virginia. She is a role model and advocate for the initiative for women and minorities to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Recently, there has been a motion to include the arts in the career set, turning "STEM" into "STEAM." Güisao-Wallace is in full support of this inclusion. She has merged her passion for education and science with her love for art by integrating creative, hands-on inquiry-based learning opportunities into her curriculum. To quote her, "They just go together."
