Updates from Mission Valley ROP's
Business and Marketing Programs

Thank you for your continued support as an advisory member for Mission Valley ROP's Business and Marketing Programs. We want to stay connected with you and look forward to upcoming collaborations in the near future.

Business and Professional Development - Cindy Hurst

Ms. Hurst had the pleasure of taking her students on three field trips to Ohlone College (Newark Campus), Chabot College, and Laney College. The students thoroughly enjoyed each field trip and those who were interested in attending had the opportunity to enroll.

Special thanks to Ohlone College (Newark Campus), Chabot College, and Laney College for their hospitality in making our students feel welcomed.

Business and Professional Development students have been busy applying for jobs, interviewing, and getting hired! They utilized their resumes, letters of application, and most important the skills they learned from their ROP class to obtain employment.

Ms. Hurst is very proud of her students and the many accomplishments they have made throughout the school year. On behalf of Ms. Hurst and Mission Valley ROP thank you to the following businesses for hiring our ROP students!

Merchandising and Marketing - Janay Shepherd

In April, students had the opportunity to visit  CRIL  ,Community Resources for Independent Living in Hayward. Students learned about the different resources available for the community and all field trip expenses were covered by CRIL.
The field trip journey provided the opportunity for students to gain skills towards independence as they learned how to read a bus and bart schedule.

Thank you Justine Victoriano and Kim Burks of CRIL for planning, organizing and chaperoning our trip. Y our generosity and support for Mission Valley ROP is much appreciated.

This month, Ms. Shepherd and her marketing students were able to take a field trip to the all new John's Incredible Pizza located in New Park Mall.  The students were taken on a behind the scenes tour of the restaurant where they learned about how the food is prepared, customer service, and always having a smile.

Thank you John's Incredible Pizza and your amazing staff for allowing MVROP students to gain on the job knowledge and  experience all the fun, food, and games.

Business and Professional Development
- Jonathan Sabangan

The Newark Memorial business students participated in mock interviews with industry experts from reputable companies such as Google, Coherent, and Facebook. Students demonstrated business etiquette practices, presentation of current industry-acceptable resume and cover letter, appropriate business dress code, and high analytical problem-solving. Furthermore, the interviews placed students in both one-on-one and panels to mimic situations seen in Silicon Valley. The interviewers were very impressed with their performances. On behalf of Mr. Sabangan and Mission Valley ROP, thank you advisory members from Google, Coherent, and Facebook for allowing our students to have the opportunity to gain interviewing skills which will help them acquire jobs in the near future.

Two of Newark Memorial High School's business students were asked to promote our business classes on American Spanish Television Network, Univision. Our students discussed recent entrepreneurship trends and the value/benefits of ROP's business classes.

Get involved by hosting a field trip or come in the classroom and be a guest speaker.
