This year our chapter will be hosting the District Semi-Finals for the EWGA Championship on August 26 th at Fyre Lake!  This is an exciting opportunity for us to showcase our chapter and what makes the Quad Cities so great!  As the host chapter, we will need roughly 15 volunteers to help us either Friday, August 25 th or Saturday, August 26 th .  Volunteers do not need to be a member or female and can include family and friends.  Here is a quick list of the type of positions we will need to fill:
  • Registration/Check-in
  • Starter
  • Scoring
  • Check Point Monitor
  • Scramble Team Markers
  • Spotters
  • Photographer
  • EWGA Foundation Assistant
If you are interested in helping us or want additional information on any of these positions, please email Denise Keim at [email protected].  Remember this is a big event for our chapter, and we want to be a FANTASTIC host location!

2017 John Deere Classic Wants You To Be a Marshal!

The EWGA QC Chapter is once again marshaling hole #12 at the 2017 John Deere Classic Golf Tournament July 12-16.  Having an "EWGA presence" at the JDC is a great way for us to give back to the community and get up close to the pros!  As marshals for the JDC, we will have two shifts or an all-day shift available Wednesday-Friday with the morning shifts beginning at 6 a.m. - noon and the afternoon shifts from noon - 6 p.m. Shifts for Saturday and Sunday are only available as an all-day shift which is approximately 8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. depending on the first tee time those days.  Don't forget to invite your friends and family to join you as a marshal with us this year! The sooner you register, the better chance you will have of getting your preferred shifts.  Wednesday AM and Friday PM shifts are already full, but we would love your help for another one of our shifts!

Cost per marshal is $25 for a required golf shirt, to be worn with your own khaki golf shorts, skirt, skort or pants.  You may also purchase a ball cap ($10), floppy hat ($15), straw hat ($15), or visor ($10).  Badges are provided for free entrance to the tournament all week long.  Lunch, snack and water are provided during your shift.  Volunteers may bring a chair (without the outer bag) and cooler, if desired.  You will be driven to and from the hole for your shifts.  If you are a new marshal or would like a refresher on the responsibilities of being a marshal, training is available on June 27 th & 28 th at 5 pm & 6 pm at Deere Headquarters.

Three things are needed to register this year:

1) CLICK HERE to go to the John Deere Classic Volunteer web page. Along the left side of the page you will see a navigation bar listing a variety of topics that will provide additional information.  Begin by clicking on "REGISTER HERE" in the top left corner.  Select "Standard Volunteer" and continue with the registration process. Select "marshal" as the committee, and select "marshal Hole #12".  This selection will require a security code, which is "EWGA".

2) Pick up your uniform from the John Deere World Headquarters, just off of John Deere Road in Moline.  Uniform purchase and distribution dates are:  June 27 th & 28 th from 4-8 pm and June 29 th from 10am-2pm.

3) Attend the Volunteer Appreciation Party on Thursday, June 29th at the Rhythm City Casino from 6 - 9 p.m.

Everyone is encouraged to sign up as soon as you know your availability!  Having spots filled early helps us determine whether we need additional volunteers to fill the gaps and avoid a last minute scramble.  If a shift has an excess of volunteers, you may be contacted to see if you can help cover a day that needs additional volunteers.  I want to thank all of you in advance for helping us with one of our biggest events of the year.  Your service in this fun and rewarding activity is greatly appreciated!

Golf Leagues & Education
by Caron Kraft- Golf Programs and Services Director

Golf Leagues Update:
After a couple of rainy Wednesdays, all of our leagues are underway!  We hope you are enjoying your leagues, polishing your golf skills and creating new friendships.

Just a reminder, if you are in a pay-as-you-go league it is your responsibility to let the league captain know if you will not be attending league. That allows for the possibility of a sub filling your spot or for the captain to obtain the correct number of tee times.

If there are any problems or questions about leagues, your first questions should go to the league captain. If the issue or question is not resolved at that level, please contact me. We want leagues to be a fun and positive experience for everyone.

Golf Clinics Update
Registration is open for our remaining educational opportunities:
Course Management Clinic - beginning at 5:30 on June 15 at Emeis Golf Course
Putting Clinic - beginning at 6:00 on June 26 at Emeis Golf Course

Both clinics are taught by Amy Baker, certified teaching professional.

You may register online for these clinics.  If you have already registered for any June clinic and want to sign up for another, you will need to use a different email address to get back into the system.

A list of all our golf education clinics may be found on the EWGAQC website
