St. Paul's Church

June 12, 2017

Jesus said, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)

I have an important announcement regarding the Opening of the Flamevine Church.  The Consecration of St. Paul's Flamevine has been changed to December 3, 2017.   BUT we still hope to be able to worship in the new church in mid-September. Why the change? Well, December 3 is the beginning of the season of Advent, the church's new year, so it makes sense to consecrate then. Also, moving the date to December means more of our seasonal friends will be able to join us.

The Great Pyramid of Giza
So why the photo of the Great Pyramid of Giza?

Are we announcing a new pilgrimage to Egypt? No. Our next pilgrimage is to the Holy Land of Israel in November of 2018.

The pyramid represents a new development in our construction of our church. We had originally wanted Jerusalem stone. But the cost was prohibitive. So our Design Committee had settled on an attractive ceramic gray tile for our church's floor.

Then, just last week, our builder came up with an option for Jerusalem stone. Jan Jelmby had found a vendor who quarries in the shadow of the pyramids in Giza, Egypt. The vendor's price was in the range of our flooring budget. Working with Building Committee chair Toby Arnheim, the Design Committee jumped at the opportunity to realize its original vision.

The only drawback is that the quarrying and shipping will set the project schedule back a month.

Bishop Ron
We are still hoping to get our certificate of occupancy in mid-September so we can begin to worship in our new sacred space. But rather than set a tight schedule for the for
mal consecration, we asked Bishop Ron Kuykendall to move it to December 3. He graciously agreed.

So save both dates: Mid-September and Decemb er 3!

Gratefully in Christ,
Pr. Jon
