Road Detour on Topsail Road
To accommodate the installation of underground infrastructure at the intersection of St. Thomas Line and Topsail Road, additional detour routes will be added to the area on June 12 -13. This work is part of the Phase IV Topsail Road Widening project.

Eastbound traffic will proceed through Topsail Road, from 7 - 9 a.m. At 9 a.m., eastbound traffic will be detoured through Spracklin Blvd.

Westbound traffic on Topsail Road will be detoured through Glendarek Drive, until 4 p.m., at which time westbound traffic will proceed through Topsail Road.

The Town will implement several traffic calming measures along the detour routes. During construction, the public is reminded to proceed with caution and to reduce speeds in construction zones and detour routes, especially when in the vicinity of the school.

Information is available on the Town website.
Garbage Box Removal Starts
June 12

The Town will
start collecting garbage boxes not removed from the front of your property line on June 12.

Automated Garbage Collection uses Town-supplied wheeled carts and garbage boxes are no longer needed as part of the waste collection. Garbage boxes left at the end of driveways and near the road create problems for the automated garbage collection.

You can keep your garbage box as long as it's not at the front of your property. You can re-purpose your garbage box; some uses include:
  • Sort bottles that are to be taken to the recycling depot
  • Store outdoor garden supplies or toys, or;
  • Convert them to rain barrels to collect water for gardens or compost bins.
If you don't want to re-purpose your garbage box, we'll collect it for you. Garbage boxes not removed from in front of property building lines will be considered left for disposal and the Town will collect them.
St. Thomas Line Community Centre
The new St. Thomas Community Centre is now available for rentals. The facility is an ideal location for community rentals, events, and activities.

It includes a large meeting room that accommodates up to 85 people, a large kitchen area to support social functions, and a variety of other amenities designed to provide dynamic opportunities for community programming.

A new playground will be added to the grounds over the summer. Stay tuned for the official grand opening later this summer.

For information about renting St. Thomas Line Community Centre, visit the Town's web site.
50+ Wellness Expo
The Town of Paradise is hosting its annual 50+ Wellness Expo on Saturday, June 10, from 12 - 5 p.m. at the Hedley Blundon Gymnasium, Paradise Double Ice Complex (1 Sarah Davis Way).

The 50+ Wellness Expo is free of charge and features information booths from a variety of our community partners including Seniors Resource Centre, Eastern Health, Recreation NL, Body Quest, and Sobeys, to name a few. Throughout the afternoon there will be prize giveaways, guest speakers, and great live entertainment from Justin Fancy.

This event promises to be a full afternoon of fun and information for the 50+ community. Hope to see you there!
Paint the Pavement
The Town held a Paint the Pavement at Octagon Pond Elementary on June 7.

Through the use of large street murals, Paint the Pavement projects aim to build community spirit, encourage artistic talent, and calm traffic.  Artist Jennifer O'Brien-Strapp worked with the students at Octagon Pond Elementary to design a pavement mural relevant to their school.  She then helped the students to paint it.

Paint the Pavement projects were held at the other three Paradise schools - Elizabeth Park Elementary, Paradise Elementary and Holy Family Elementary -last June. As Octagon Pond Elementary was not open at that time, the project for that school was deferred to this year.
