IN THE MIDDLE SCHOOL

This year, the Middle School held its first ever full scale color war.  It was aish - fire vs. mayim - water.  Color war broke out with rabbi  Hecht telling the kids that some times he needs to relax and some times the students need to relax so .... "let's have a color war."  The kids were so excited!!  There were intense games of basketball, dodgeball, football, and soccer.  There was an all out musical chairs.  Following lunch, each team presented a dvar Torah.  Simon Says was so fast paced and some of the students were impossible to get out.  Day one concluded with cake wars.  Each team did a fantastic job!  Day 2 started off with a scavenger hunt.  Each team had to find one item with each letter of the alphabet.  Next, there was a chidon, lunch (including scrabble with Dave) and a dvar Torah.  The finale of color war included a poetry slam, banner and stomp.  Thank you to all of the captains and mazal tov to the victorious team -  TEAM MAYIM - BLUE

DEBATE UPDATE

On May 22, HANC participated in its last debate of the season. We had the opportunity to play North Shore, BPY, and SAR. Emily Keehn came in as second place speaker. As a team, Ori Baer and Emily Keehn came in third place. Way to go! HANC has had a terrific season debating. We won a total of 16 trophies this year within the four debates. Of the four we won first place school twice! We look forward to next year.
7th GRADE GIRLS BOOKTALK

After months of reading, learning and analyzing the book "Forever My Jerusalem" by Puah Shteiner, the 7th grade girls had an amazing time at the Mother- Daughter Book Talk on Tuesday, May 23rd at HANC. The night began with a welcome from Rabbi Hecht and Morah Hakimian and then continued with different activities for the girls and moms to do together- such as an arts and crafts group or a drama acting group. Over 10 of the amazing 7th grade girls shared their perspective on the book, the life lessons they learned from the gripping story of Puah during the war and especially about all the things we should be grateful for now that we have the State of Israel. At the end of the program, there was a spectacular performance by the 7th graders where Morah Hakimian showed the mothers a special Mother Appreciation Video (created by none other than Yaira Goldress) and taught the students a song of yearning for our Beit Hamikdash and the final redemption. The grand finale was when each girl gave her mother a special letter she wrote and surprised her mom with this token of love to take home. It really was a great night for both the girls and the moms. Thank you to Rabbi Hecht, Mrs. Schnieder and Mrs. Jackie Raofim- who made an effort to be there to help out and share in the experience.

The students marched in the Celebrate Israel Parade on June 4.  This year's theme for the Middle School was: HANC and Israel Praying Together.  Thank you to Mrs. Schwartzman for creating such a beautiful banner.

EIGHTH GRADE RECOGNITION DINNER

One of the highlights of the end of the year for our graduates is the eighth grade recognition dinner.  This year's event took place on June 5.  The students entered the beautiful ballroom at the Sephardic Temple.  The tables looked magnificent with beautiful balloon centerpieces.  First there were hors d'ouvers.   The students and faculty loved the little hot dogs and potato knishes etc.   After the appetizer, Rabbi  Hecht and Mrs. Schneider introduced the program.  The first component was to celebrate all of the chessed that this class has done.  Mordechai Strauss spoke about the importance of chessed and different things that the students have done.  After each student received his/her certificate of completion of their chessed hours, dinner was served.  Next there was some fantastic ruach.  The music and dancing were out of this world.  The second part of the night included a paragraph about each student.  When their name and picture flashed on the screen they came up and listened as a faculty member extolled their virtues.  All of the students were there to support each other.  The evening concluded with dessert, a video depicting some memories of the class of 2017 and maariv.  Thank you to Mordechai for speaking and to Jacob DiGiacomo, Mordy Goldberg, Shoshana Levine, Emily Keehn, Atara Klein, and Mordechai Kupferstein for putting the videos together.
