News From the Field:
Partnership with Philippine Permaculture  Association

Last weekend we were honored to host the Philippine Permaculture Association (PPA) in Baguio City and have them tour our farmers fields throughout Benguet Province. The weekend was spent convening leaders in sustainable agriculture in the region to discuss forming a permaculture hub. Permaculture is a systems thinking and conscious designing of landscapes that mimics and follows patterns found in nature. It is often integrated with organic farming practices around the globe. We led an Introduction to Permaculture course in Tublay in 2016 for 40 participants, and two members of the Benguet Association of Seed Savers (BASS) and Karen our Country Manager are proud graduates of the weeklong Permaculture Design Course held last spring.

Participants during the weekend included the leaders of the PPA including renowned Permaculture teacher Bert Peeters and Maria Marasigan, representatives from Baguio-Benguet Urban Gardeners (B.B.U.G.s), staff from the  Maryknoll Ecological Scantuary, and the Pitak Project a permaculture farm located in La Union Province (south of Baguio City).  All participants enjoyed touring our Seed Library in Tublay and learning from the farmer members of BASS during field visits.

We are delighted to continue our collaborations with the PPA and help them incorporate seed saving into their standard permaculture curriculum. Later this month two new members of BASS will be attending the weeklong Introduction to Permaculture Design Course taught by Berts Peeters at Cabio Kid Farm

4th Annual Film Screening:
MODIFIED- A food lover's journey into GMO's
Thursday, April 26th 6pm-8pm

Join us for our 4th Annual Film Screening Event. This year we are pleased to be
screening the feature-length  documentary-memoir, MODIFED . This film questions why genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are not labeled on food products in Canada and the United States, despite being labeled in 64 other countries around the world.

S hot over a  span of ten years, the film follows the grassroots struggle to label GMO foods, exposing the cozy relationship between the biotech industry and governments. The film is anchored in the moving story of the filmmaker's relationship to her mom, a prolific gardener, seed saver, and food activist who died of cancer while the film's production was underway.

We are excited to have film maker Aube Giroux join us for a virtual post-screening Q&A. Discounted pre-sale t ickets can be purchased HERE and will  include light refreshments.
