The President released his FY 2018 Budget Request to Congress last week. NAIHC was disappointed to see that many federal programs that support tribal housing have proposed budget cuts or were eliminated altogether. NAIHC will work with Congress to ensure that these cuts are not enacted, and encourages all NAIHC members to work with their Congressional delegation to make sure tribal programs are adequately funded. You can find NAIHC's FY 2018 Budget Request Here.
Housing Support Programs Across the Federal Government

Whether you are an individual looking to build/buy a house or renovate your current home or a tribal housing authority searching for additional support for tribal elders housing, this guide introduces almost every Federal resource available to support housing opportunities in Indian Country. Tribes, tribal citizens and organizations have utilized all of these resources to expand housing access and improved current housing stock. This guide was developed by the White House Council for Native American Affairs (WHCNAA) Economic Development and Infrastructure subgroup.

NAIHC and United Tribes Technical College enter MOA to provide Continuing Education Units to Housing Professionals
NAIHC Executive Director Tony Walters and United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) President Leander McDonald have signed a Memorandum of Agreement that will allow participants receiving training at select NAIHC workshops to also gain Continuing Education Units (CEUs) from the UTTC Office of Extended Learning. This is exciting news that will enhance tribal housing professionals' credentials and skill sets.

The continuing education unit allows UTTC to record an individual's successful completion of various activities, allowing individuals to earn CEUs in order to maintain or increase expertise in a career field or renew professional licenses.  Individuals attending NAIHC AMERIND Annual Convention and Tradeshow have the opportunity to earn 1.55 CEUs.  The CEU Admission/Registration Form is available at, (insert link).  UTTC representatives will be on hand at the NAIHC AMERIND Annual Convention and Tradeshow to assist you in taking advantage of this opportunity.

USDA Seeks Applications for Grants to Support the Development of Rural Community Facilities
Yesterday the Secretary announced a new funding opportunity through USDA Rural Development to support the development of essential Rural Community Facilities. The announcement can be accessed below. Within the announcement there are hyperlinks to the program's webpage and the federal register notice.

This program is a little different than what we've traditionally offered, in that it provides grant funding for predevelopment costs and technical assistance. Tribes are eligible both as technical assistance providers and as ultimate recipients. Therefore, for all that are interested, I'd recommend a close read of both the federal register notice and the webpage as the eligible costs for technical assistance providers and ultimate recipients are different.

Applications are due at 5:00 PM EDT on July 24, 2017. A webinar for potential applicants is scheduled for June 20th at 2:00 PM EDT. I don't have all the details yet but will send out the official flyer and/or the access instructions when I have them. So for now please save the date and time.
