June 2017
League Matters
Because we usually have little programming in the summer months(no Second Tuesday or Drinks & Dialogue for June or July) there will be no July League Matters Newsletter.  Contact the editor with any questions.  See you in August!
Day in Our Village
It was a beautiful and warm June "Day in Our Village" on Sunday. At our booth in Scoville Park, 35 people entered our membership raffle, while countless others stopped by to ask questions or register to vote. Thanks to Marilyn Cantisano, Beverly Graham, Heather Cunningham, Leigh Eicher, Alyssa Ralston, Mary Haley, and Linda Bauer for working our booth. And congratulations go to our newest member, Gail Norman, who won our raffle! Welcome!
Automatic Voter Registration Bill
A bill will soon reach Governor Rauner's desk on Automatic Voter Registration.  Both the House and Senate have passed the bill with bipartisan support. Want to learn more about how AVR would work? Check out this video.
501(c)(3) Conversion Committee
In the next few weeks, our League will start working on the IRS forms to convert our League from a 501(c)(4) to a 501(c)(3). If you are interested in working on this committee, please contact Peggy Kell.  Right now, we have 4 members.  We are hoping that we can file our conversion request in a couple of months, so this would be a short term commitment. We will keep you posted on our progress.
New Member Survey
At the beginning of May, a survey was sent out to members that have joined our League in the past 5 years. We asked 10 questions of 76 members.with 37 members responding.  We asked about reasons for joining our League, meeting and program preferences, in addition to age range.  The Communication and Membership Committees will be analyzing and using the feedback we received from these members to help with program planning for the future. Thanks to the respondents for taking the time to share their thoughts with us.
LWV IL June Convention
On June 10 and 11, the LWV IL Convention will be held in Des Plaines. Our delegates this year will be Heather Cunningham, Leigh Eicher, Beverly Graham, Victoria Isaza Rivera, Peggy Kell, Kathy Nesburg, and Alyssa Ralston.  The convention is always a great way to meet other members from across the state, while doing the work of League. We will be reporting back on all issues discussed and decided in future communications.
