The East Bay Caring Collaborative
will be sponsoring a MAINTAINING HEALTHY FEET AS WE AGE presentation in the East Bay. All TTN members and guests are invited to attend.
Dr. Yuko Miyazaki, a Foot and Ankle specialist will meet with us to share her advice and experience on issues related to our aging feet including the most common foot problems and how to treat them, suggestions on footwear and the best ways to maintain our feet.

Cost: There is no charge for Caring Collaborative/TTN members. Feel free to invite friends (please have them RSVP as well) who you think might be interested in the topic. Non- members pay $10.
The Dream Institute is five blocks from both Downtown Berkeley BART and North Berkeley BART and with ample parking on surrounding streets. It is located on University Ave., between M.L. King and Sacramento streets.

All TTN members in the East Bay may join the Caring Collaborative, a group of women who volunteer to support each other in times of illness, injury, or other personal needs. Our goal is to create a supportive safety net to preserve and promote healthy independence.
Sample services include rides to and attendance at medical appointments, providing meals, and assistance with household chores such as grocery shopping. For more information or to join, contact Janet Mandelstam, Collaborative lead.

Seeking Advice About Senior and Mixed-Age Affordable Housing
I'm writing on behalf of a TTN member who needs to identify senior and mixed-age affordable housing for people who have a higher threshold of annual income than the $32,500 annual income limit. Hers is $42,000 annual income.
Have any of you been in a similar situation -- where you have sought or are seeking senior and mixed-age affordable housing with a higher annual income than most of the affordable housing allows? If so, did you come across any affordable housing in the Bay Area where she might apply that has a higher limit, where she could meet the higher income limit?
What about some of the new affordable buildings that are cropping up? Do you have any knowledge about them and contact info?
For those of you who have "been there" or who are coping with this now in your life --
- What -- in your experience -- is the easiest way for researching these options?
- Any places that don't have long waiting lists?
- Also, if you have any other advice to offer that I can pass on to her -- that would be great.
This is a very stressful time for her, and I want to help as much as possible. Whatever insights, contact info, including my talking with you directly, will be very appreciated by both of us.

Journey to the Third Age
 Research shows people who have plans are much happier in retirement. Join TTNer Rolene Walker in a great opportunity to explore retirement ideas, and to make new connections with people.
The class is very interactive; people will be given structures, but they determine what their true work, rest, play and study are, and decide what activities they want to try out in each of those areas.
Rolene is convinced that we need to consult with each other and help each other think about the special opportunities we have at this point in our lives to do meaningful work in areas we are passionate about.

SF RE-SERVE
ENGAGING OLDER ADULTS IN PART-TIME WORK
|
ENERGIZE A CAUSE WITH YOUR EXPERIENCE
San Francisco-based Community Living Campaign is launching SF ReServe to match older adults with rewarding part-time service opportunities at nonprofit organizations and public agencies. SF ReServe is the newest affiliate of the national nonprofit, ReServe. Started in 2005, ReServe has placed more than 8.000 older adults in stipended, part-time assignments throughout the country.
Supported by a 3-yr grant from the San Francisco Department of Aging and Adult Services, SF ReServe has been actively recruiting both organizational partners and "ReServists." A special benefit of being a TTN member is getting involved in members-only peer groups.
Participate in peer and special interest groups that range from discussions about transition issues and business networking to activities such as cultural events, gourmet dining and book clubs. There is no limit to the groups that can be created because they all originate with the members!
