My son Colin is 44 years of age. He is our first-born son. We have 2 other boys. Colin was brain - damaged at birth. The doctor who delivered him denied ever knowing this happened and at the time covered it up and I did not know better. Colin was premature, weighed 4 lbs 8 oz and was in an incubator for 10 days and I was not allowed to touch him until he was out of the incubator. He spent the first 3 weeks of his life in hospital. I was very immature, but I had 7 younger brothers and sisters and certainly knew what babies were like and I struggled through especially in the very early days. He was very fragile and really developed very slowly. THEY told me that he would be fine and that he was simply a preemee and would catch up. Finally when he was about 3 years old, I found a doctor who agreed with me that there were some developmental delays. Today he is an independent and fiercely independent man. He recently suffered a heart attack and is facing some huge health challenges as a result of uncontrolled diabetes. I would love to share my story as I feel that other women have faced similar challenges but with a belief in God or a Higher Power; grit, gratitude, humor, and determination and above all love of family and love of SELF - we can overcome anything.
