Folsom Fire Department Change of Command Ceremony to be held June 1
The City of Folsom is holding a ceremony on Thursday, June 1 to mark a change in leadership at the Folsom Fire Department. Interim Folsom Fire Chief Dan Haverty will pass command of the department to incoming Fire Chief Felipe Rodriguez at a 10 a.m. public ceremony at the Library Gazebo, located at 411 Stafford Street. The Change of Command ceremony is the symbolic movement of authority and command between the two fire service officers.
Guests at the ceremony will include Mayor Andy Morin and City Council members, regional elected officials, and ranking members of regional law enforcement agencies and fire departments. The ceremony will begin with a presentation of colors by the Folsom Fire Honor Guard, and the National Anthem by the Folsom High School Chamber Choir. The ceremony will include the passing of the department's "speaking trumpet" from Interim Chief Haverty to incoming Chief Rodriguez and the ringing of an historic Folsom Fire Department bell. Historic Orangevale Avenue Bridge Opening Celebration June 3
A century-old bridge that connects Folsom and Orangevale will officially reopen to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians after a year-long rehabilitation and historical preservation project. City leaders, project partners and community members will commemorate the effort to preserve this landmark bridge with a ribbon cutting and community celebration. The special event will take place on Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at Greenback Lane and American River Canyon Drive. Parking will be available in designated areas on American River Canyon Drive. Scott Road Closing for Folsom Plan Area Improvements
Placerville Road from Highway 50 to White Rock Road, which has been closed for infrastructure improvements in the Folsom Plan Area, is scheduled to open the first week of June. Simultaneously, Scott Road between the eastbound Highway 50 off-ramp and White Rock Road will be closed as construction activity moves to that section of the project. The newly opened Placerville Road, as well as Prairie City Road and Latrobe Road, will be available as alternate routes.Traffic safety and detour signs have been posted. Learn more.

All-in-One Transit 'Connect Card' Now Available
Are you ready for a simpler way to ride transit? The Connect Card is the Sacramento region's new way to pay transit fares for both bus and light rail. The reloadable smart card has an embedded computer chip that can store cash value, daily or monthly passes and discount fare. Now you only need one card to ride all nine transit systems in the Sacramento region. Participating agencies include Folsom Stage Line, Sacramento Regional Transit, Elk Grove e-tran, El Dorado Transit, Placer County Transit, Roseville Transit, South County Transit Link, Yolobus, and Yuba-Sutter Transit. In Folsom, transit riders can get a Connect Card at the City Hall Customer Service Counter at 50 Natoma Street between 8 a.m, and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Summer Concert in the Park
The popular summer concert series at City Lions Park kicks off this Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. featuring the country band Robby James & The Streets of Bakersfield. The free concerts are presented by Folsom Parks & Recreation with the generous sponsorship of Folsom Rotary Clubs, Easton Development Company LLC, The Goddard School, Rubio's, and Take Part in the Arts. Bring a picnic or purchase food and beverages on site from a special rounds-up of SactoMoFo food trucks. The concerts continue weekly through July 28. Grab a cup of coffee and learn more about the Folsom Police Department at "Coffee with a Cop" on Wednesday, June 14 at 6 p.m. Join Police Chief Cynthia Renaud, Sergeant Eric Baade and Dispatcher Jessica Barbour for a casual meet-and-greet at Coffee Republic, located at 6610 Folsom Auburn Road. Fundraiser for the Folsom Zoo Sanctuary Tuesday
Chicago Fire is hosting a fundraiser Tuesday, May 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. at their Historic Folsom location, 614 Sutter Street. Mention the fundraiser when you place your dine-in or take-out order and Chicago Fire will donate 20% of the proceeds to help the animals at the Zoo Sanctuary. Note: gift card purchases are excluded from this offer.

Folsom Aquatic Center's Little Dippers Swim Program
Little Dippers is exclusively for parents and youngsters age six and under. It provides a great opportunity for little ones to splash and play, and increase their water confidence in a less-crowded environment. The program takes place in the activity pool, 10:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays, June 2 through August 4. Admission is $5 per person (season passes not valid for this program); all participants are required to exit the facility at noon but are allowed free re-entry at 1 p.m. for recreation swim.
