And here's the PVHS Triton Yearbook 2017!
Distribution Day on Wednesday was a big success and a chance to celebrate a year of shared memories. The Triton Yearbook 72-person staff is proud to present a full-color 484-page book with these new or upgraded features:
  1. Ninety-eight percent of the student body covered three times or more in polls, copy, captions and photographs.
  2. Thirty-five Aurasma live-action videos linked to photographs with the speaker icon. These literally add sound to the publication.
  3. Twenty-eight Voiceover spreads which capture the school climate and the voices of our student body.
Congratulations to the 2016-2017 staff. The dedication and collaboration of leaders and staff members created a truly memorable history of this year at Palos Verdes High School. The hours of time, talent and tenacity are a gift to the student body and the entire community. Go Sea Kings!

Athletics:

Track and Field:
Camille Hines and Ian Irish both qualified for the Track and Field State Championships this weekend in Fresno. In preliminary rounds on Friday, both Ian and Camille qualified and advanced to Saturday's final. In the final, Camille took 12th place to cap a fantastic career at PVHS. Ian used a strong finish to move up to 6th place, the final spot on the state meet podium, and lower his own school record for 800m to 1:52. It's the fastest time run in the South Bay over the last 20 years. Congratulations to the track and field athletes and coaches on a great season!

Boys Tennis:
The doubles team of Sean Holt and Mikael Purne were in action in the CIF doubles tournament. Last week on Thursday, they took on a team from San Marcos HS in the round of 32 and won 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Then on Friday the boys ran in to a strong team from Arcadia and lost in 3 sets in the round of 16. Congratulations to our tennis team and coaches for a great season!

Last Thursday, the PVHS Booster Club hosted the annual Athlete of the Year banquet at the PVGC.

Congratulations to Jordan Mickle and Dean Dellovade, selected as Most Inspirational!

Congratulations to Camille Hines and Shane Irwin, selected as Athlete of the Year!

Student Accolades:

Please congratulate fellow Sea King and current Sophomore student IAN UYEDA for being accepted at the Pomfret School in Connecticut to play hockey for them in the fall.

As some of you know, Ian is one of the top hockey players in the state, playing goaltender for the 2016-17 California Tier I AAA State Champions Los Angeles Junior Kings. Ian's stretch drive leading to the Championship game had him winning 10 of 13 games, amassing a goals against average of 1.31 and a save percentage of .950. He finished 2nd in the state among Tier I goalies. Pomfret School just came off a Championship year of their own, so their desire to have Ian in goal tells you about his strong play and work ethic. But, it was his academics that really pushed Pomfret to want him and award him a scholarship, along with the quality of education he received at Palos Verdes High School. Most out of state transfer students repeat the grade they are in, but Ian's current 4.4 GPA, present course work and Pre-ACT results convinced Pomfret that Ian would succeed entering as a Junior, which is a tribute to our school and his fabulous teachers! It is with a heavy heart that Ian will attend Pomfret and leave Palos Verdes High School, but he would have missed in excess of 30 days of instruction here if he continued to play Tier I AAA hockey in California. Please join me in congratulating Ian for being accepted at one of the nation's top small prep schools! He will be missed.
