Sara (Sally) Stewart Allen 1949 - 2017

Sara (Sally) J. Allen
, 67, loving wife, mother, grandmother, nurse and educator, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 24, 2017, following a long illness.   Sally was born on September 4, 1949, in Hammond, Indiana, to Robert and Blanche Stewart, but spent most of her formative years in Wadsworth, Ohio, graduating High School in the class of 1967.

Sally married Phillip C. Allen, former Broward County Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive of Port Everglades, on July 4, 1970.   They were together for 46 years and had one son, Scott Allen of Coral Springs.   Together Sally and Phil took great enjoyment in spoiling Scott's 8 year old son Connor.

After graduating from the University of Akron with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, she taught learning disabled children before moving to Coral Springs, FL, in 1986 with Phil and Scott, and continuing her teaching career.   Looking for further challenges, she graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a bachelor-of-science degree in nursing and spent the balance of her working life as a case manager with the Florida State Health Department serving youthful AIDS patients, teenage mothers, and facilitating other clinical activities.

Sally was active in the Akron and Fort Lauderdale Junior Leagues and later volunteered at the Coral Springs Library and the Coral Springs Hospital where she also served on the Auxiliary Board of Directors.   In addition to her family, Sally loved traveling both home and abroad, boating, the outdoors, and especially all of her dogs throughout the years.   She was known for her infectious smile and outgoing personality.   She will surely be missed by all who knew her.

Sally is also survived by her brother Robert Stewart and wife Barb of Wyoming, Ohio, and his family.   Also surviving is sister-in-law Carol Allen of High Springs, Florida and her family throughout Florida.

Visitation will be at the Kraeer Funeral Home, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, on June 7 from 3 to 6 p.m. with a Celebration of an Amazing Life at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations in memory of Sally Allen be sent to the American Brain Tumor Association, 8550 W Bryn Maur Avenue, Suite 550, Chicago Il, 60631 (www.ABTA.org).   Online condolences can be sent to http://www.dignitymemorial.com/kraeer-funeral-home-coral-springs/en-us/index.page
