Good conversation and good food at the recently renovated and very popular Black Goose: What a great way to spend some time with fellow Probus members.  Hopefully it will be warm enough to sit outside.

With warmer weather and clear roads, it's time for the Ladies to go further afield. 
Pat has planned an excursion to Locals, a popular restaurant in Courtenay.
(Warning!  Since there is a wonderful bakery/chocolate shop and some great women's clothing boutiques in Courtenay, shopping may also be involved.)

Our first "Friday on the Green" golf game was held on May 26th. 
 
Robert Grose and his fellow duffers have arranged for us to get out on the course once a month.  The next round will be at Pheasant Glen.  Don't miss out!

PROBUS OUT & ABOUT - A Tour of the John Hart Generating Station and Dam
A once-a-year opportunity:  July 9th

Here's a chance to view a massive and impressive construction project near Campbell River.
On Sunday, July 9th (not July 12 as originally planned), BC Hydro will host the third annual John Hart Generating Station and Dam community event.  All construction activity will shut down for the day while the public tours the Replacement Project site with guides.  You and your fellow PROBUS members will see the existing powerhouse, the tunnel water outlet area and the work area around the John Hart Dam
, as well as some of the unique construction equipment used on this project.

OUT & ABOUT - CHEMAINUS THEATRE IN SEPTEMBER

It's not too early to sign up for our next theatre outing on September 13th.  It will be a matinee performance of Jeeves Takes a Bow, a clever British comedy.  Buffet Lunch too.

REPORT ON OUR May Speaker: David Hahn, Manager of Nanaimo Costco

On May 5th, David Hahn, Manager of Nanaimo Costco gave an informative and frank presentation to possibly the largest audience ever to attend a Northwest Bay PROBUS meeting.  Seventy-nine people waited anxiously as David's opening comments answered the question of everyone's mind:
 
"Does the Nanaimo Costco have plans to relocate?"  His answer...

An Evening at the Theatre - Pirates of Penzance

 

Seventeen of our members had an evening on the town, enjoying dinner and drinks and then on to see a sold-out performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.

Are you wondering what Club events are currently being planned?  You can check them all out by going to our website ( nwbprobus.org) and then to the OUT & ABOUT menu.  Click on the COMING UP tab.  You will want to note that this year's Appetizer Extravaganza will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd.  Watch for your next eNews to get more information.  And a special event is coming up for you kayakers - the Nanaimo Harbour Full Moon Kayak Tour on Wednesday, September 6th.  Sign up information will be forthcoming in your eNews. 

Robert Grose has some terrific speakers on tap.  You have already read about this month's speaker, Teri DuTemple of the Nanaimo Correctional Center.  In July we will hear from Isobel MacKenzie who is the BC Seniors' Advocate.  In September we are very fortunate that Robert has snagged a very sought-after speaker, Terri Mac of Strong Nations Publishing, who will speak on Native Issues.  Don't forget, there is no meeting in August.
