United Way of Northern Nevada
and the Sierra

June 2017
to support local families

United Way and UPS Reno Hub kicked off the summer with a "Delivering Impact" 5K in Sparks, NV on Saturday, May 20th. The donation based walk-run benefited our local children and families in need. United Way held a summer reading pledge activity for kids, and provided free children's books. Attendees also enjoyed local vendors, free food and drinks, bounce houses, friendly competitions among UPS employees, and appearances from the Reno Aces mascot and a Reno 1868 FC soccer player.

On Friday, June 2nd, Microsoft and United Way partnered to deliver 1,000 STEM-themed literacy kits to 3rd graders in 14 Washoe County Schools to help keep students engaged during the summer months.  The kits included two books, a parent engagement activity, and supplies for the
various science experiments within the boo
ks. The STEM focus also merged Microsoft of Reno's emphasis on innovation and technology to educate youth with  United Way's early grade reading initiative.
