TOPIC:
The facts are in and the costs are high! Law Enforcement Officers face many types of danger during their career. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Fund, on average somewhere in America, a Law Enforcement Officer is killed in the line of duty every 57 hours.

Officers often pay another price that doesn't make the headlines on the evening news, yet one that still destroys lives. Stress, Trauma, PTSD and Suicide are Law Enforcement's Hidden Assailants. Law Enforcement Agencies across the country are recognizing the need to provide training programs and mental health services for officers and support staff. Training and education are keys to reduce stress, and programs such as peer support and critical incident stress debriefing teams help reduce long term traumatic effects.

This One-Day (8 Hour) class will present a Reality-Based Model and provide students with a first hand look at Law Enforcement Stress, Trauma, PTSD and Suicide and will provide the tools and skills to build resiliency.

The student will:
  • Gain a better understanding of the law enforcement profession and issues related to stress, trauma and officer safety.
  • Learn how stress and trauma affects the body and the mind and how to recognize signs and symptoms.
  • From the Battlefront to the Homefront, officers will be encouraged to develop a personal plan for resiliency.
  • Identify personal risks and develop strategies to reduce stress in their personal and professional lives.
  • Examine critical incidents from an officer involved shooting to a line of duty injury and death, from workplace and school violence to an act of terrorism.
  • Learn about terms such as Cop Shock and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Gain a better understanding of Law Enforcement Suicide and the "Mystery Within".
  • Learn the importance of seeking assistance... from professional counseling to life coaching...from peer support groups to critical incident stress debriefings.
  • Students will be provided with resources and the tools and skills needed to develop a personal plan for resiliency and how they can assist their co-workers.
