The Region's Top Technology Talent Turned Out for Cyber 8.0
Thank you to all of the sponsors, exhibitors, keynote speakers, moderators, panelists, cyber conference committee members, volunteers and attendees who made Cyber 8.0 a huge success this year!
Morning keynote speaker Curtis Dukes talked about everything from innovation to his predictions including the continued domination of mobility and the possibility of online voting. Then the conference broke into two tracks for the first time with dueling morning and afternoon sessions.
Richard "Dickie" George moderated Concurrent Session 1A focused on Developing an Insider Threat Program under NISPOM. George was joined by panelists Robert C. Smith, CISSP-ISSEP from Leidos, Brian Hubbard from Edwards Performance Solutions, Jennifer Scanlon from Innoplex, Jennifer Smith from Shulman Rogers and National Security Consultant Mary Griggs.

On the other track
, Gary Merry of Deep Run Security moderated session 1B, focused on Protecting and Securi Data From Insider Threats. Merry was joined by panelists Jason Taule of FEI Systems, Ananta Hejeebu of Howard Tech Advisors and Melissa McCoy of Kaizen Approach.
Attendees were treated to a lively and informative lunch session where Tami Howie, President of the Maryland Tech Council, interviewed keynote Ron Gula, Managing Partner of Gula Tech Adventures.
Concurrent Session 2A focused on Partnering for Growth and Selling Out Through Private Equity, Venture Capital and Strategic Buyers, moderated by Greg Boucher of The Braff Group. Moss Amer of the Maryland Venture Fund, Jamie Benoit of FedData, Chris College of TCP Venture Capital, Ryan Corey of Cybrary and Ermis Sfakiyanudis of Trivalent talked all about funding. Panelists described some trends in the marketplace including too many "me too" companies without unique tactics of their own and from an investment prospective that leads to a lack of attractive early state companies to invest in.

Session 2B, moderated by J. Thomas Sadowski, Vice Chancellor, Economic Development University System of Maryland, focused on How Government and Higher Education is Spurring Innovation. The Vice Chancellor was joined by COL Daniel Bennett, Ph.D., a Professor at West Point and part of the Army Cyber Institute, LTC Stoney Trent, Ph.D., Chief of Experimentation for Applied Research and Development in the U.S. Cyber Command, Stephen Auvil, SVP of Technology Transfer & Commercialization at TEDCO and Dr. Richard Forno, Senior Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering and Director, University of Maryland Baltimore County.
Lonny Anderson, Executive Vice President of Nobus, gave the afternoon keynote speech focusing on Technology Innovation to Prevent Insider Threats, and even though it was late in the day, the room was full of attendees eager to hear from Anderson.
The conference was a great success, and the best evidence of that success, is the fact that every speech and panel went over the alloted time. So many attendees were incredibly engaged and asked a lot of questions. We can't wait to get started planning Cyber 9.0!
