Russell's Ritings,
Leslie Weatherhead, a famous Methodist preacher of the last century, was pastor of London Temple during WWII. One of his books recalls how he and his young son stood in their doorway and saw people die during the bombing of London. He asked how one can find meaning and hope in that kind of situation? Then, pensively, he answered himself, "It is not what happens to us that matters most; it is the way we react to what happens to us."
And John S. B. Monsell put it that way:
Fight the good fight with all thy might,
Christ is thy strength, and Christ thy right;
Lay hold on life, and it shall be
Thy joy and crown eternally.
Run the straight race through God's good grace,
Lift up thine eyes, and seek his face;
Life with its way before us lies,
Christ is the path, and Christ the prize.
I hope to see you Sunday! Sunday's sermon is "Making Every Day Count" (Psalm 118:24) and we will celebrate the conclusion of our Bible School (going on this week).
And one more thing! The REVEL Rockies marathon and a half will be run this Sunday morning, and this race passes by our church on Evergreen Parkway. Traffic flows are altered, and traffic monitors are stationed at several entrances to Ponderosa Drive. I have called those coordinating the race, and they have assured me all the monitors will know YOU are coming to church and will not hinder you in any way. However, please leave five minutes or so early this Sunday.
and
DON'T FORGET - COWBOY SUNDAY IS JUNE 18!
AND THE FOLKS ARE FRIENDLY,
Russell
