It Takes Two
It takes two sessions as agreed upon in your Memorandum of Understanding to get to the GrapeVine Conference for free! There's still time to complete them before July!

Perhaps you're having a difficult time finding an audience- family, friends, or neighbors count as session participants too!

Conference details and registration found at:

  •  Post-session surveys are to be handed out by you and completed by the participant AFTER sessions. Please collect a completed survey from each participant in exchange for the incentive.
  • Please be sure to send your paperwork (sign-in sheet, surveys, and session report) to WWHF within 2 weeks of your session.
  • Would you like to be featured in the next newsletter? Send your session stories and pictures to Nora at [email protected]. We'd love to share what you've been up to!
GRAPEVINE UPDATES
Staying Active at Any Size
We know regular physical activity has tons of health benefits, but for many, especially those who are overweight, it can be a struggle to get active. This article from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases offers practical advice for overcoming exercise barriers , no matter what your size.
Recipe for Health
National Women's Health Week was a few weeks ago, and in celebration, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Office on Women's Health shared a video with their recipe for healthy women. It's a fun resource to share, and it touches on many of the core messages GrapeVine delivers!
Alcohol Consumption and Breast Cancer Risk
Just one glass of wine or other alcoholic drink per day significantly raises the risk of breast cancer. That's according to a review that was recently released by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and the World Cancer Research Fund. This is information that will be included in the revised breast cancer unit, but feel free to use it when presenting the unit now too!
Developing Resiliency
As a nurse or caretaker, you face many challenges. Some days they may seem too difficult to manage or overcome. Resilience is important! Enjoy this article by WWHF staff: "5 Ways to Develop Resilience"
You are Making an Impact!
As a GrapeVine partner, you have a huge impact on your community. The fruit of your labor may not always be obvious, but then sometimes it is!  Jenny Hinz is an RN at the  Manitowoc Public School District, and she recently shared that GrapeVine "has changed some lives here in our school for some very high risk young ladies".

Not too long ago, Jenny and her co-worker, Kellea Ewen, co-taught the mental health and healthy relationship units to a group of students at McKinley Academy. These are students who require special attention and often come from troubled homes. The information in the units is so relevant to them, and GrapeVine sessions give them an opportunity and safe place to open up. "I'm sure they talk about it among themselves, but having an adult to talk to is different." Jenny adds that students were actively engaged during the sessions and provided feedback and examples from their own lives- even taking time afterwards to speak privately with the nurses about issues they had been going through, whether mental health concerns or  sexual activity.

It's information they need to hear, and it's especially impactful at their younger ages. Jenny thanks GrapeVine for providing the units, and we
thank Jenny, Kellea, and all our community partners for their dedication in sharing health education!
