Sermon
"New Beginnings "

Scripture Lesson
II Timothy 1:3-7

This Sunday
This is graduation Sunday, a time to celebrate those who have completed course work and are ready to move into their next adventure.  I 'll be sharing the message with one of our graduates, Ryan Breske.  Ryan has grown up at this church, offered himself to his school and community in some pretty amazing ways.  He is a multi-sport athlete, a scholar, an oldest son, an older brother, a leader, a mentor, and a young man dedicated to making his world a better place.  He is ready to begin his next adventure.  He will be attending the University of Washington, has already joined the cheer squad, suffered his first injury, and can't wait for football season to begin.    I remember my first memory of Ryan was him holding three year old, now nine-year-old, Harry Browder.  It was the way Harry looked at him that took my breath away.  Six years later, Harry still looks at him that way; with the kind of admiration and love that can only come with consistent love and grace.  Ryan exudes that.  What sets Ryan apart is his attitude and his focus.  We'll talk about that a bit this Sunday.  To prepare please read II Timothy 1:3-7.

~Pastor Brad

P.S. There will be NO Kids' Club this Sunday.  Instead we will listen and learn from Ryan as he shares the message with Pastor Brad.

Rev. Brad P. Beeman

Dorothy and I woke up this morning and it just felt strange.  For the first time in our lives, we have no children living at home.   We are officially empty nesters.  As she and I have talked over the past week we both realized that this past year and a half has been one of challenging and changing priorities.  With Ben home, after basically rescuing him from the street a year ago last October, our focus changed.  Then came the decline in my parents health, other struggles they were enduring, and then Cora's jaw surgery.  Particularly over this past year we've spent much more of our time focusing on family.  The time has been a challenging one.  But in the spirit of transparency, I wanted to let you all know that we recognize the shift.  Both of us love what we do.  We're both answering a call of God to serve in ministry at Aldersgate, yet there are times in life where our priorities and our focus needs to shift.  That was the case for us.
I am aware that there are those in the church who have felt that shift, noticed the change and wondered what was going on.  The same can be said of some of the preschool staff and preschool parents.   As we waved goodbye to Cora on Monday, I felt both a longing and a renewed sense of energy and focus.  I know Dorothy is feeling the same.  So in this early summer blog I just wanted to explain, and thank you for your patience and your prayers, and let you know that our energy is returning as is our focus on our shared call, God and you.  I meant what I shared last Sunday, Aldersgate is a gift and one to never be taken for granted.  You are a treasure and it is a privilege for both of us to be serving, not only God and you, but serving together in ministry.  We love you, and our roles.  There are exciting things ahead and God is calling this amazing place to continue to grow in faith, love, health and service.

MISSION & OUTREACH
Peace with Justice Sunday
June 18
Peace with Justice Sunday is June 18 and we will take a special offering to help support the Peace with Justice ministries in our church conference.  Gifts on Peace with Justice Sunday fund grants to United Methodist ministries and programs that work for peace, love and compassion for God's children in the United States and around the world.  These programs empower United Methodists to speak out for removing structures and systems that harm God's children globally.  When you give, you encourage people to live - not just preach - a gospel of peace.  Please give generously.

Pastor's Discretionary Fund
Friends, the requests keep coming in and the needs are great. The Pastor's Discretionary Fund is not only depleted but now running in a deficit.  If you feel called to continue to support this ministry at Aldersgate, please add a bit to the offering plate  on Sunday .  Even if it's a small amount, everything helps.  Through this fund we're feeding the hungry, clothing those in need, and offering hope to those who are currently without it.  Every cent of this fund goes to help the most desperate of those living around us.  Thanks for prayerfully considering the Pastor's Discretionary Fund with help.  Thank You!
Called to Dismantle Racism:  Practical Pathways
to Mobilize Faith Communities for Racial Justice
Saturday, June 10
The Church Council of Greater Seattle is holding a workshop on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at University Congregational Church, 4515 16th Avenue in Seattle. The training is designed especially for congregations who have begun to embrace the pathway toward racial justice within their own congregations.  The training will strengthen connections between area congregations committed to moving forward on racial justice work by providing some foundational and logistical pathways their communities can utilize for change. The training will underscore the moral imperative of understanding racism in our congregations and broader communities to effectively partner with others to dismantle it.
Ideally, a team of 2-4 people from the congregation would attend together to carpool and share resources.  The cost is $25 for an individual and $75 for a team up to 4 people.  Snacks and beverages will be provided.  Please bring your own lunch.  RSVPs by Wednesday, June 7, should be sent to Ann Erickson at [email protected]
