Children's Sermon
for June 11 (Trinity Sunday)
Items needed:  2 navel oranges, sharp knife, cutting board, 2  clear glasses.  Hold up orange and ask what  it is.  And how many-just one, one orange.  But one orange is made up of three parts.  (Cut orange in half)  See, there's the peel of the orange(point to), that's only part we see when we look at the orange, and the peel is what holds everything  together. But one orange also has the fruit of the orange inside (use knife to cut off a slice of orange without peel.)  That's what we think of when we talk about eating an orange.  And there's another part of this orange that we don't see, but it's there.  Let kids guess what might be.  Whether or not they guess correctly (the juice,) take up other half of orange and squeeze over glass so juice comes out.  The juice of the orange is something we  may not even see when we look  at an orange.  But the three parts-the peel, the fruit, the juice make up just one orange (hold up whole orange.)   Today is Trinity Sunday, when Christians talk about how we know our one God in three ways.  There's God, also known as God the Creator, or God the Father/Mother, there is Jesus Christ, also known as God the Savior or God the Son, and there is  the Holy Spirit of God.  God the Creator is kind of like the orange peel, the  One Who holds everything together.  Jesus is God kinda like the fruit of the orange, Jesus is the One who feeds us.  And the Holy Spirit is kind of like the juice of an orange--the Spirit is God on the move(demonstrate by pouring juice from one glass to other.  So just like we have one orange, but with a peel, a fruit, and some juice,  we have one God we see in three different ways.
