What's Happening
It all started forty-three years ago, not counting the "unofficial" years, with neighbors coming together for a delicious salmon barbeque.  The Ballard SeafoodFest was born of great company and great seafood and characterizes the connection Ballardites have with the maritime industry and a small town feel in a big city.

Even after Ballard was annexed to the city of Seattle, its unique identity as a community of hard-working fishing and lumber families, most with Nordic backgrounds, remained. As Ballard now grows and evolves into the micro-urban center in the northwest corner of Seattle, Ballardites have preserved their unique history.  One way this history and community is shared each year, happens on the second weekend of July. Neighbors close the streets and invite the community to come together to enjoy a fantastic salmon BBQ, great drinks and music at the Ballard SeafoodFest.

Just as the neighborhood has grown and evolved since 1974, so too has the festival. We are anticipating 75,000 festival goers, more than 100 arts and crafts booths to explore and hundreds of unique food options served up a myriad of ways. Don't worry, we are bringing back Ozzy's Lutefisk Eating Contest and Trident Seafoods alder-smoked salmon BBQ. This year, we are starting a new tradition that is the Trident Seafoods' Crab Shack. While the offerings may change from year to year, we have committed to adding a seafood option that will become a great companion to the salmon barbeque.

SeafoodFest will continue to grow along with community but it is the community that makes SeafoodFest so special. Volunteers from all over come out to work hard and have fun. Many have been volunteering for more than a decade. Without the generous support of our volunteers and sponsors, this celebrated iconic event would not be possible.

We would like to thank our 2017 sponsors .  With their support, Ballard SeafoodFest is sure to entertain the young and more seasoned this year. If you see one of our sponsors at SeafoodFest, be sure to say hello and thank you for helping our community celebrate everything fish and fun. Maggie and Legh Burns, Owners
What is your favorite aspect of owning a business in Ballard?
We love being in the Ballard Historic District and we really feel like we're part of the neighborhood. Our business neighbors and our patrons have become like old friends and we frequently interact outside of the work day. We also live in Ballard and our son goes to school here, so we share friendships with many other parents, some are customers, some are also local business owners. Many of these friendships are a direct result of our continued interaction with the Ballard Alliance (formerly the Ballard Chamber) over the past 15 years.

What Makes re-souL Unique?
In 2002, we saw an opportunity for high quality, hand made European shoes and accessories that wasn't being served at retail. We also felt that personal customer service was key to the sustainability of any business. With our unique combination of fashion and urban functionality, we developed a following for having products that weren't seen at other stores. Fifteen years later , the marketplace has changed dramatically yet our commitment to customers remains. Whether online or in-store, we do our best to make the customer experience our top priority.

What do we want people to know about our business?
Value. As we import many of our products directly from factories in Italy, Spain, Portugal and elsewhere, we avoid many of the expenses involved with traditional distribution and marketing. The construction, fit and finish of our products easily compares with bigger brand names without incurring the markups associated with wide distribution and sophisticated advertising campaigns. While you may not recognize some of our brands, customers see the quality and recognize a good value.  In 2014, we introduced our own re-souL collection which has been well received and we continue to sell exclusively in our shop and on-line.

What is our favorite place or thing to do in Ballard?
Well, since we live and work here, we rarely leave Ballard, so it's too easy to say that everything  is our favorite. Legh likes skateboarding at Ballard Commons and cruising Golden Gardens with the family dog. He's equally at home at Hattie's Hat or at Bastille Cafe. Maggie likes taking the dog for a walk along the marina and Golden Gardens. Her favorite lunch spots are San Fermo and Monkey Bridge and she also likes shopping at Curtis Steiner for that one-of-a-kind purchase and a dose of inspiration. Cameron likes movies at Majestic Bay, pinball at Full Tilt and everything in stock at Sweet Mickey's Candy Shoppe.

The Ballard Alliance and our partners are working hard to keep the neighborhood clean, healthy and safe but we need your help. One thing you can do as a business owner or manager is to get locking bins or the appropriate size trash, compost and recycle bins for your company. Our fury and flying friends love to get into the trash cans and share refuse with the neighborhood.

A special thank you to Moshi Moshi, El Borracho and Ballard Home Comforts for working with us and the city to get locking bins for your trash receptacles! Would you like help in securing your trash? Contact Devin Reynolds at 206-784-9705.
