Dear MLEPC Members and Friends:

This week we welcome our Pastoral Intern, Doug Kortyna, back into the pulpit. Doug will be preaching on James 1:5-12 with a sermon titled, "The Weight of Words." We look forward to another fine sermon by Doug, which he tells me is a continuation of his first sermon at MLEPC in March. On Sunday, we will be worshiping on our rooftop terrace for our Contact Service. Join us at 9 a.m., and if you don't know or remember how to get to the roof, know there will be Deacons stationed at our usual greeting spots in the narthex and drive-through lobby to help you find your way. Pray for good weather - and that our praise songs will reach the heavens as we will be that much closer to them in our beautiful outdoor worship setting.

Along with welcoming Doug into our pulpit, we welcome our Summer Interns, and they are already hard at work among us. Ranae McIntyre helped to lead worship two weeks ago when Pastor Steve was away; Ranae will be on staff both serving as a worship intern and returning to staff as a children's ministry intern. Also returning to children's ministry is Josh Ombiri, and in the month of June, Emma Dougherty will be working as a children's ministry intern as well. Ted English and Olivia Dowd return this summer as our youth ministry interns.

In the world of Senior Adult Ministry, many know that
Laura Duffy will continue on a leave of absence this summer following the passing of her mother a few weeks ago. Laura looks forward to being back with us in mid-August, even as she and her husband Mike look forward to the wedding of their daughter, Sarah, in just a week. To help with calls, visits and administrative tasks this summer, we have invited Renee Skinner to work with us on a part-time basis. Renee joined MLEPC in 2014 and is a familiar face around the church as she was involved in Mission Possible last summer and serves as a Deacon. Renee is an elementary school teacher and conveniently has the summer off to serve among us. She can be reached at [email protected] or 412-531-3387, ext. 210.

As we look forward to Rev. Carolyn Poteet joining us as our transitional pastor, know that she will be moving some things into the Pastor's Study this next week, so you may see her around the church. Pastor Carolyn will officially be in the pulpit next Sunday, Father's Day, and will begin a sermon series for the summer on The Lord's Prayer with, surprise(!) - "Our Father . . ."  She looks forward to moving back to Pittsburgh and is even going to join our Session on Tuesday evening as we have an evening set aside to celebrate our elders who have completed their terms of service. Also important, your elders and pastors will join together in worship with prayer for you, our church family and friends, and the work God sets before us in this summer season.

Our summer season of mission officially kicked off last week with Sign-Up Sunday. Many came to Fellowship Hall after the Contact Service to enjoy ice cream and yogurt sundaes AND hard boiled eggs. But more important, people were excited to see the projects set before our church family to draw others to Christ. Our prayer is that through our service, they will see His love in action. If you haven't signed up yet to serve, please do so online or by getting in touch with one of the Mission Possible 10 Team Members: Heather Casturo, [email protected]; Jim Fondelier, [email protected]; Wendy Higham, [email protected], Kristen Waugh, [email protected], or contact Pastor Steve or me. There's a way for each member to serve; even our homebound members will be encouraged to be involved through prayer for one or more of our projects! Our tenth church-wide summer mission trip is about to begin, fasten your seatbelts and get ready to travel with us!

Love in Christ,

Pastor Linda
