Latino Christians Lead Tidal Wave of Change in Church, Communities, the World

"For many, the Latino Reformation is unknown, unrecognized, and unimportant-three good reasons why every white and black Christian needs to read When Faith Catches Fire." -Dr. Scot McKnight, Julius R. Mantey professor of New Testament, Northern Seminary

Latino Christians are blazing trails of local, national, regional and global change. In the next few years, their influence will only continue to grow and be felt in the church, in business, in government and politics, in the economy, in arts and sports and in the important and pressing issue of race relations.

This year the Christian church will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. In When Faith Catches Fire: Embracing the Spiritual Passion of the Latino Reformation (WaterBrook, June 20, 2017), Rev. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, and Dr. Robert Crosby, theology professor at Southeastern University, argue that the Latino Reformation has begun. A movement they call the "salsafication" of the church is poised to impact every area of culture.

When Faith Catches Fire

As the fastest growing minority in America, Latinos are impacting church culture through vibrant worship, fervent prayer, and a commitment to change the world--one soul at a time. Sammy Rodriguez, a national leader of the evangelical Latino church in America, will issue an invitation to Christians everywhere, to rekindle a passionate faith.

NHCLC President Samuel Rodriguez Applauds President Trump for Keeping DACA, says NHCLC Ready to Help Find Immigration Solutions
via The Kairos Company

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-
In response to President Trump's affirmation to keep DACA and not deport "DREAMers," Rev. Samuel Rodriguez has made the following statement:
"I want to-in the highest possible terms-commend President Trump for fulfilling a promise he made directly to the NHCLC by continuing the DACA program and allowing DREAMers to stay in the United States. These young men and women were brought to this country not by their own choice, but they grew up in this country and have become as American as any other American. President Trump's decision to keep DACA is exhibit A of the administration listening to and cooperating with the Hispanic community, and we commend him for it.

CHOOSE GREATNESS

It's Not About You

Dennis Kinlaw died recently. He was a great influence on my life.

Dr. Kinlaw was twice President of Asbury College, one of the oldest conservative Christian colleges in the United States. He earned a Ph.D from Brandeis University and was a professor of Old Testament languages before being elected president of Asbury College in 1968. I once heard a well-known Harvard professor say that Dr. Kinlaw had "the most incisive intellect in America."

Dr. Kinlaw believed in radical commitment to Jesus Christ and exemplified that commitment every day. He became legendary in Christian education for the profound depth and original insights contained in his books and sermons. It was impossible not to learn something fresh and startling every time he taught. He was always true to the Bible and consistently presented information that was life- changing.

Dr. Kinlaw was also known for his kindness and generous Christian spirit. He loved God and he loved people.

WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL

Arguments for Heaven's Sake
by the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews

So Eleazar the priest collected the bronze censers brought by those who had been burned to death, and he had them hammered out to overlay the altar, as the LORD directed him through Moses. This was to remind the Israelites that no one except a descendant of Aaron should come to burn incense before the LORD, or he would become like Korah and his followers. - Numbers 16:39-40

The Torah portion for this week is Korach, from Numbers 16:1-18:32, and the Haftorah from 1 Samuel 11:14-12:22.

In the 1980s, an Israeli politician appeared on the Morton Downey, Jr. Show, a controversial talk show that was known for heated, even acrimonious debates between the show's guests. When this politician made his appearance, everyone was screaming at him - the guests, the audience, everyone. As they called him names, hurled threats, and voiced their hatred of Israel, the Israeli sat completely calm. When Morton asked him how he could sit so calmly, the politician replied: "I'm used to this. This is what our Knesset (the Israeli parliament) discussions are like every day!"
