This bill, introduced by Senator Pat Browne and Senator Jay Costa, would provide a consistent source of funding to assist Pennsylvania museums that do not receive general operating support from other state sources. The Pennsylvania Museum Preservation Act frames out a funding program that is streamlined, allows for operating support and multi-year funding, and identifies eligible museums and organizations using national standards, definitions, and markers of performance.
Funds would be distributed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) based on a percentage of the operating budget for each museum.
This is a unique opportunity to change the way Pennsylvania funds museums.
Please contact the members of the Senate State Government Committee NOW to ask them to vote for SB 588 when it is before the Committee.
