On Monday June 5, 2017 the City of St. Catharines celebrated artists, educators, administrators, patrons, volunteers and organizations who have contributed to our community in all areas of artistic creation and endeavor. The evening was a roaring success!  Check out our Facebook photo album.

For the second year in a row, COGECO TV filmed the awards ceremony. New this year, the event was not only broadcast on COGECO TV this month, it will also be available on their free, Video On Demand channel (Ch. 602). Once there, any Cogeco customer across Ontario can watch the ceremony, anytime, at no cost!
 
This year marked the second year of the Mayor's Arts Fund Reception, a new opportunity to strengthen the City's investment in the arts by welcoming private sector sponsors to the St. Catharines Arts Awards. Six sponsors contributed to the event $14,000 for the St. Catharines Cultural Investment Program. Thank you to those sponsors and to Mayor Walter Sendzik for leading this initiative!

Kitsch 4 Canada Exhibition Reception
Kitsch 4 Canada is an exhibit of original artwork by nine local artists, unpacking the souvenir through art. Or is it kitsch? Join us to find out!

Outdoor Films with The Film House
The Film House is moving to the great outdoors with FREE outdoor screenings. First up is the  classic coming-of-age film STAND BY ME. B ring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy a film under the stars.

Doors Open St. Catharines
Doors Open allows residents to explore places that are normally off limits - such as government buildings, local businesses, heritage sites and places of worship. Come out for a chance to connect with the buildings and institutions at the heart of our city's history! Admission to all sites is FREE!

Summer Concerts in the Park 
Enjoy the sounds of local musicians on Wednesday nights this summer. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and come enjoy the evening air filled with music.

When:  July 12 - 26 and August 16 - 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Driftwood Theatre returns to St. Catharines
The Bard's Bus Tour will be in St. Catharines for one night only to perform Othello. Their version of Shakespeare's blistering account of race, jealousy and revenge is set in 1974, with Canadian peacekeepers caught in a life and death struggle between opposing forces on the small island of Cyprus.

When: Friday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Celebration of Nations / Célébration des nations

Celebration of Nations is an annual and ongoing Indigenous performing and visual arts gathering to honour and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples within Canada. Performers include Buffy Sainte-Marie, Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and DJ Shub (formerly of A Tribe Called Red). The full lineup will be announced later in July.  Tickets now on sale.

Niagara Region - Open Call for Artists

Application Deadline: Thursday July 6, 2017 at 4 p.m.

Niagara Region is seeking local artists, photographers, and a videographer to participate in the Bridging Meaning in Niagara project. This project will translate into art what Canada means to residents in and visitors to Niagara.
