Message from the
Head of School:
Dear CES Families,
We did it!! This is the last week of school. Tomorrow is the last day for our preschool children, and Friday is the last day for kindergarten through 8th grade students. Friday morning is the baccalaureate and graduation service for the 8th grade students. It is a full Eucharist and a spectacularly beautiful way to end the year. All of you are invited, and we would love to have you as part of the service. It begins at 10:00am in the church.
Today was the special awards' ceremony for the 8th grade students. During this ceremony, each student is introduced by me and then presents his or her essay, "What CES Means To Me." Often very moving, these essays reflect each child and how CES has shaped him/her. Today I was particularly impressed by all that the students revealed about themselves and the many ways that CES has left its imprint on them. Without exception, each student talked about how the teachers had challenged them, but they also mentioned how they believe that CES helped them to be kinder, better people.
In preparation for writing these essays, and anticipating what they hoped they would be able to accomplish in high school, one student said something that I found remarkable. He said, "I hope to keep pushing myself to be the best me." I thought, where does such a thought come from? First of all, he had to have had a vision of who his best is, and he had to have had an awareness that not only does he want to strive to fulfill that vision but that he has
already
been "pushing" or "striving" towards that vision.
How is such a vision created? Based on what I know of his family and the faculty at CES, I believe that his vision comes from the messages he is receiving from all of us. Certainly, his parents are the primal force, but then he comes to school, and what does he hear? He hears,
"You can do it."
"I believe in you."
"You are capable."
"You can find a way."
"You are a child of God."
"You matter."
"You can be a person of integrity and honor."
"You can develop a heart for others."
"You can be a leader."
He also hears, "We care about you, and we will help you."
If every child who leaves CES has a vision of who he/she is as his/her best and not only
wants
to realize the vision but
feels compelled
to realize it, what a remarkable job we will have done. I send special gratitude today to all of the faculty members, staff and administrators who work tirelessly everyday to insure that each student's day is meaningful and full of opportunities for feeling competent and strong. I also want to express my appreciation to all of the parents and extended family members of our students for your commitment to CES, for helping us to be the best school we can be and to stay true our mission, "to nurture students to become kind, confident, well-rounded individuals prepared to contribute to their community and thrive personally, spiritually and academically."
Happy summer CES Cardinals!

Squeals on Wheels Visited Preschool!
Miss Kate from the animal venue "Squeals on Wheels" visited the Preschool on Monday. Their program "Old MacDonald Had a Farm, Jr." was perfect for our age groups. We enjoyed rabbits, a tortoise, guinea pigs, chicken and a pig! The PreK class could even name some of the animals in Spanish. We woke the animals up by singing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and everyone got to gently pet them. What a fun event! |

2016 - 2017 Annual Fund
"Going for Greatness"
Thanks to the faithful and generous support from our Board of Governors and parents that have already given, exceptional financial results from the 'Fifty and Fabulous' Gala and 21st Annual Golf Classic, and increased support from our Foundation supporters, we approach the 'home stretch' of the school year with the opportunity to reach $300,000 raised this year, which would be a historic high. We need every parent to help.
Our fundraising goal from the parent community is $175,000. Reaching $175,000 is one goal; another goal is 100% current parent participation. To date, 43% of our parents have participated in the 2016-2017 Annual Fund campaign. Last year's participation was 70%. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT! If you have already given, please encourage your fellow parents to support this fund which bridges the gap between tuition raised and the actual cost of a CES education. If you have not yet donated, please participate today. You may drop off a check with Maggie Schneider at the front office, or
donate via this link today.
Thank you in advance for your support.
