It's getting warmer outside, and just like the season's emerging fruits and vegetables, the CFR network is growing in exciting ways. Learn about our first public school partner. See how a farmers market was able to donate food all winter long. Find out how we're spreading CFR's impact in the community. Help the CFR Redistribute 20,000 Pounds of New Food Each Month!



A new large-scale food donor has pledged to provide up to 20,000 pounds of meat, produce, bread and prepared foods every month. Join Community Food Rescue, Manna Food Center and Montgomery County Food Council as we discuss how to efficiently and effectively recover and distribute this food to local food assistance providers. The meeting will be held on June 14th from 6:00-8:00pm at Silver Spring United Methodist Church (8900 Georgia Ave). Register by Friday, June 9th.

Students Discover Lunch is an
Opportunity to Feed More, Waste Less 

Redland Middle School students were placing unopened, unwanted food on a "share table," but when the school noticed perfectly good produce, wrapped sandwiches, and milk that students left behind, they partnered with CFR to make sure the food didn't end up in a landfill. Since January, the school has provided 40 pounds of food each week
to Watkins Mill House, a transitional housing program for women run by
Interfaith Works.

CFR is excited to explore similar opportunities with public and private schools across the county.
Mark Mills, Owner of Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm, coordinated market vendors who contributed 1,600 pounds of food over three weekends in May.
Produce Vendors Give Back to Support
the Community

In the summer months, Manna Food Center makes weekly pick-ups at the Olney Farmers and Artists Market, but when harvest season ends the market scales back, making it a perfect time for CFR to step in. With support from CFR's tremendous volunteer food runners, Olney Farmers and Artists Market vendors contributed fresh produce and prepared food to Seneca Heights Apartments and other food assistance partners in our network.

CFR in the Community 

Our goal of "feeding more and wasting less" in Montgomery County is a nonstop endeavor, and Community Food Rescue is thrilled to share learnings, and learn with others who share our vision. In the past few months, we've participated in a number of events with partners in our network and the broader community.
