Last Chance: Underwriting & Collections Takes Place in Just 2 Weeks...Register NOW!
July 21, Baton Rouge

Join Pierre Cardenas for this 2-day workshop that reveals the intertwined relationship between Underwriters and Collectors.  When asked WHY the two diverse roles are taught in tandem instead of separately,  Pierre's reply is quite simple:

"I find there to be a tremendous amount of value when Collectors & Underwriters come together to discuss loan applications, risk mitigating factors and both understand the areas of weakness with different portfolios. I highly  recommend that credit unions get into the practice of having underwriters & collectors meet monthly to discuss delinquencies, charge offs and trends they see in applications. The roles work together and help form a more complete risk mitigating process.  The Underwriter understanding the collection challenges makes them better at stipulating loans and obtaining verifications before funding."

Discover how to combine your team efforts for a more complete risk mitigating process. Pierre uses your own credit union as a teaching tool, so be prepared to bring some actual loans (the difficult ones especially) for analysis, dissection and group discussion!

Here's a taste of what to expect:
  • Evaluating, Mitigating & Managing Risk
  • Building Loan Portfolios
  • The important role Policies play in underwriting
  • Risks associated with 7 different portfolio types
  • Best Practices in Collections
  • Strategic Collection Strategies vary per portfolio type
  • Interactive, hands-on session delving into your own CU's actual loans & denied applications!
  • Best Practices, Networking & Discussion of issues you face in your Credit Union daily.

YPN Silent Auction Accepting Donations
The Young Professionals Network (YPN) is excited to coordinate the return of the silent auction during LCUL's convention in New Orleans. The proceeds from the auction will be evenly split between the Louisiana Foundation and the YPN scholarship fund.

A special thank you to all of those that participated in the auction last year; the auction raised over $5,000.
The goal is to have fifty items up for auction this year, so we need your help with donations. Your credit union will receive recognition for any item(s) that it donates on the bidding sheet. Ideas for auction items are not limited to home décor, family outdoor games, destination gift certificates, spirits, and gift baskets.

Those interested in donating can contact the YPN Steering Committee. The Young Professionals Network, along with the Louisiana Foundation, appreciate your consideration in making a donation.

Pelican State CU Celebrates New Branch in Ascension Parish
To spread the word about the Grand Opening of Pelican State Credit Union's Prairieville branch , the credit union gave away $20 in free gas to the first 200 cars to visit its Select Employer Group's gas station, Popingo's, on Tuesday, May 23. Then, on Thursday, May 25, Pelican formally celebrated the branch's Grand Opening with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, refreshments and giveaways.

Old and new members were invited to tour the branch to receive $25 cash. Fifty-five members completed the tour! Plus, visitors enjoyed brunch from local restaurants and the opportunity to text-in to enter to win a TV. During the celebration, thirty new members joined the Pelican family!

Pelican would like to thank all of the credit union's friends from LCUL and neighboring credit unions who stopped by the event. The Pelican team had a great time visiting with everyone and appreciated the support.
