Social and Emotional Learning in Wisconsin

Social and emotional learning is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, in partnership with the Safe Schools Healthy Students grant and the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) is committed to providing resources to schools and families to support comprehensive social and emotional learning opportunities for students.

Coming Soon
  • Social and Emotional Learning Competencies PK-12th grade.
  • Resources to teach, reinforce, and integrate SEL throughout the curriculum.
  • Resources specific to high school implementation that integrates SEL with academic content.
  • A model of SEL implementation for out-of-school and after school programs to create a seamless transition for youth skill development that is consistent with in-school SEL programming.
  • Resources for parents to support SEL development at home.
  • Tools that show alignment of the SEL Competencies with evidence-based curriculum and existing standards.

Key Factors for Sustaining Implementation
from the Wisconsin RtI Center

Two things near and dear to my heart and work are SUSTAINABILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION.

This new brief from the WI RtI Center does a nice job of synthesizing some of the best research on implementation science.  The five factors highlighted can be applied to any initiative at a school.
